I saw this one while browsing and it appears to be legitimate, operating on a Wednesday. It is bookable next Wednesday.

JQ602 AVV-SYD 5:00-6:25 **W****

Very strange, can't say I've seen any MEL-SYD 5am scheduled flights recently, they do out of BNE but only due Daylight Savings.

I reckon the staff will hate that flight. I believe quite a few JetStar staff hate AVV at the best of times let alone for a 5.00am departure.

I wonder what the logic is for having a 5am flight from AVV when the first departure (of many, many more) from MEL, on any airline, is 6am?

Assuming the aircraft as overnighted at AVV, its likely that they need the aircraft in SYD for subsequent departure, so offering an early am departure AVV-SYD allows them to at least sell some seats while getting the aircraft positioned for the next flight ex-SYD.

Effectively an extra flight for the day. Could operate as a 7am from SYD. The 7am from SYD would normally spend the night in SYD

Good point, improving fleet utilisation seems to be a key focus at both QF & JQ presently, so the earlier departure time opens up more opportunities throughout the day.

One advantage of an earlier arrival into SYD is meeting international connection's earlier and potentially slightly longer lounge time in SYD .
Although having said that, transferring between the domestic and international terminals without the use of the QF transfer bus would negate most of the free additional time anyway.

Pretty fatiguing shift considering the same crew operate back to Avalon then up to the Gold Coast and back.

4am Signon, 3pm sign off!

Could only find it twice in the timetable ... 4 & 11 May, and on 11 May it was "sold out" ... either a pseudo charter that day, or decided not to take paying passengers at all and just ferry the plane to SYD ....

And no complaints about the 0530 from PER to SYD?

Or perhaps the (roughly) 4 hour long redeye flights PER-MEL-SYD-BNE or MEL-AKL?

Happy wandering

Fred

Found out why.

Avalon is getting its runway resurfaced over March-June, they needed to tweak certain days of the schedule to close the runway for certain times.

Weird it just wouldn't be done overnight. But of course I suppose that would cost more in labour.

and here's me thinking it was just because everyone was super keen to get the hell out of Geelong
