Netflix now able to download for viewing later

If anyone has Netflix in Australia, it would be nice to know if this download option is now available here also.

As most of my viewing is on the plane, it may make a subscription a viable option.

Great news. Makes Scoot and Jetstar service from SIN to AU that little bit more attractive, as I already subscrive to Netflix.

Late arrival to the netflix scene.

Is geoblock still an issue and if so what is the current workaround?. I understand in the past VPNs were used to circumvent this issue

Sure is. Need to have latest version of the App. Crown downloading as I type.

I use ExpressVPN to access the US library. Netflix are getting better at detecting, but these guys seem to stay ahead of the curve.

It's a little more technical/painful to set up and maintain than previously before the crackdown, but works fine for me.

OP did mention it ("selected shows"), but it may not be obvious to all - this works in Australia, but does not work for everything on Netflix, only certain titles. Presumably licensing issues are in play.

Just had a look at the app on my android phone and can't find the option to do it.

I use YouTube Red and download concerts and other videos to watch on the plane

Are you on the latest version released today? When you click on the four lines on top left, it appears on the menu on the left. On the iPhone anyway.

Thanks for info re VPN.

How does Netflix app store the movie on your "idevice"?

You won’t be able to view the stored data on an iOS device (probably achievable on Android), but AFAIK it would work similarly to how Spotify stores offline songs.

Edit: and suddenly, I finally have some justification for opting for the 256GB iPhone :D

I don't know whether it's an issue, but I'm in the US right now and I signed up for a 30 day trial using my AU address and CC details. No issue at all. And I have to say, Netflix is awesome! So many good docos and series on there. Really makes me wonder if I should give Foxtel the flick.

It will show you the library of the country you are physically in (even if signed up in another country). The geo dodging tries to convince the Netflix servers you're physically in that country.

Licensing still antiquated and based on where you physically are.

Its only GoT that stops me flicking it.

Live sport is where pay TV operators get their subscribers. If the streaming services start to bid for popular sports (like Optus and the Premier League) that is when Foxtel etc will start to get nervous.

Or the sports do their own streaming services.. For people who only predominately follow a single code that will hurt Foxtel

NBA already has League Pass. MLB already has MLB.TV. NHL already has NHL.TV services.
