What is a good travel insurance company to go with?

I have tried Medibank (Mondial Assistance) and they were very hard to get through on the phone to make changes to the policy. Took 4 phone calls and about 2 hours of waiting to get to the right person. I can't imagine what would happen if I need help overseas!

Going to be travelling with wife and baby to Jakarta, Indonesia.

Infant has an egg allergy, so need to list him down for a pre-existing condition.

Many thanks

Hi chucksta, You can do a search and you'll find a few threads relating to your Q.

Travel Insurance direct is popular and you can google for a discount code. Check out suresave also.

I'm sure others will chime in.

I usually use Globelink.co.uk travel insurance for my family trips. They provide all the basic covers and also provide cover for many pre-existing medical conditions.

Have found the webjet policies (also managed/claimed via Mondial [which is now called Allianz]) to be very good.

I had a claim and there was ambiguity which they resolved in my favour (rather than theirs!).

The Mondial (Allianz) assistance call centre is in Toowong, Brisbane and I have always found their staff to be excellent.

In the past I have used Travel Insurance Direct and had no issues at all with them with my one and only claim.

Recently I switched over to Travel Insurance with a QBE policy and they appear to be OK and the premium is relatively cheap. Just as an example for a yearly policy for <49 years of age for worldwide cover including <72 hours in USA or Canada on each trip and premium is ~$192. Does not appear to be any discount for family policy as premium is $385.

I am about to purchase another 12 month policy and currently thinking about paying an extra $68 to reduce $200 excess to $0.
