I need to gain 75 (edit: status) points with Qantas before October so I am thinking of doing a weekend trip somewhere if I can get a worthwhile deal.

I am currently based in Bangkok and was planing on going back to Australia and then back to BKK this month by I have needed to postpone that. Does anyone know of any deals that will get me across the line leaving and returning to BKK?

I am currently silver and for quite a few years was gold due to domestic Oz flights. The reason I want to keep silver is that it will make it easier to get back to gold if I head back to Oz for work sometime next year.

Or should I not worry about the 75 points and just buy a 1 year qantas pub membership when back in Oz?

Assuming you have the four squiggles (aka tildes) then look for a cheap return MH flight to KUL in J.

80 status credits quick and cheap.

thanks, I have the 4 trips. Is it only MH I can fly on or will I get status points with other One World Airlines? To get the status points, do I need to book through Qantas or can I book on Malaysia web site?

You can get SCs with any OneWorld airline, but check it is a fare code that earns SCs.

Book the flight directly on the MH website.

If you aim is Gold, it doesn't make it any easier or harder if you are starting from PS or NB. Still need 700 SC to achieve Gold. The only thing that is easier is retain what you already have, and if going for SG, the timing difference of retaining or gaining PS on the way wouldn't make much difference.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I'd wait until after your anniversary and build your status credits towards gold with the whole year to achieve it.

Ah, thank you all for clearing this up. I didn't check I just assumes retaining silver decreased the points need to attain gold as well. Thank you for clearing this up. I will wait until next year.

To clarify it's status credits you want, not points per se. SCs and points are very different things when it comes to attaining status.

Yes, it is status. I have edited the original post. I didn't think any amount of FF points could assist with gaining a different status. Are you saying there is and that is why you are asking about the differentiation? If there is, please advise. I have FF points to burn.

The other option out of BKK are Jetstar services WITH the right bundle that collects Qantas points.

For future reference here are some more, occasionally good value, regional trips from from BKK:

QR to HAN
RJ to HKG & KUL
UL to CMB

And CX of course to HKG & SIN, but not so cheap these days.

I wasn't asking... but if you have a huge amount of points, you could do points + pay, which does earn SCs, though as far as I know the value is usually very poor.

This couldn't possibly work as everybody would attain silver before attaining gold.

Thank you for these. I will keep these flights on file.
