I am considering using JAL to get to the US. The connection time showing for the Narita connection onto the AA flight (JAL codeshare) is 1 hour 10. If I don't do this, then I have to overnight.

Is this enough at Narita considering I don't have to clear customs? I figure that if I do miss the connection, then they are obliged to get me onto another US flight that day, or the next direct flight the next day anyway.

Thoughts?

We regularly flew JAL BNE-NRT-JFK with a 55 minute transit at NRT.Only once did we go close to missing the JFK flight but JAL staff escorted us through security and we + bags made it.You dont have to go through customs just the transfer security which often has long queues.Unfortunately JAL stopped the BNE service.

Did it once as backpacker flying JAL BNE-NRT, and codeshare JL Canadian to YVR. You should be fine. Just make sure you follow the signs be fine. Just make sure you follow the signs. I did get lost going onto the Skytrain between terminals which wasn't needed.

Yes I wouldn't have an issue and do it myself.
I use JAL to USA via Narita (transfer to AA) when not entering via DFW. The AA lounge at Narita is actually good and very spacious. I can sometimes even squeeze in a shower as well as the AA lounge is less crowded and showers are easier to get. I've posted some pics somewhere on the trip reports section of the JAL B777 and then AA to US plus some lounge pics.
Transfer is easy and clearly sign posted ... though sometimes you can have a bit fo a walk.
Because you are flying OW they tend to group the gates togther.
But always remember book a single PNR and the golden rule of YMMV applies.

Look out for Beer Dispensers in the lounge! Qantas and JAL Sakura have them. Perfect pour every time. Makes beer on tap without the robot, or in a bottle seem so 20th Century

My wife will be travelling solo in May to JFK and she has a Thai Airways to ANA connection at Narita but only one hour to do it. I've read the thread and done some googling, but I'm keen to put her mind totally at rest. Can someone confirm that the two carriers are still in the same part of the terminal (one south) and that she will have to go through some sort of security. She will be transferring from Thai business to ANA First. Will that help?

Thanks
