At the start of 2011 NAB upgraded my Qantas Gold Card (Amex + Visa) to a Qantas Platinum One card. This should have meant that I would earn 1.5 FF points per $1 spend on Amex and 2 points per $3 spend on Visa with no cap on the points I could earn per month (points earned on the Gold Card cut out above $10K p.m. spent).

When I realised I was missing about 60,000 points I found they were still being allocated at the Gold Card rate instead of Platinum.
I've requested info from both NAB and Q (I'm not sure who's to blame at this stage) but I don't expect to get a quick response at this time of year.

Has anyone else come across this problem ? If so, how was it resolved? Maybe anyone else who took up NAB's upgrade offer should check their statements for discrepancies.

Happy NY to all.

I was upgraded to platinum one as well. I don't think you have a problem at all. My recollection of everything I read with the change over was that the platinum one would continue to earn at the gold rate, basically nothing would change. So I have no idea why you think it would earn at the higher platinum rate, as this is not a platinum card; despite the name.

Now on this topic, I recently looked into the NAB gold card and it now only offers a mastercard and Amex, instead of a choice of MasterCard or visa. My theory is that everyone who previously had a gold Amex and visa was upgraded to platinum one as gold was changing to Amex and MC only. This is based in my and my mum's experience, and the OP.

Did anyone with a Amex and mastercard get the platinum one upgrade?

I don't think it's a clearcut as you suggest medhead. The information provided by NAB about the Platinum One is contradictory and could easily be construed as misleading and/or deceptive. NAB obviously wants its customers to believe the Platinum Card and the Platinum One Card are one and the same thing. The covering document posted on NAB's web site is headed "Upgrade to a NAB Platinum Card at no extra cost" and states "By accepting this invitation and requesting to upgrade your current NAB credit card will change to a NAB Platinum credit card". - with a new number etc. NB; it does not say "Platinum One card". The Platinum Card info (including picture) shows it consists of a Visa and Amex cards. No mention of a MC option. I have a Visa and Amex. The Platinum One page (which has no direct link and you can only find using the search function) shows the only option as an Amex and a MC.

The page depicting the 3 Qantas Credit cards available does not even show the Platinum One card; again apparently intended to convey the conclusion that the word "One" on the Platinum One card is superfluous.

As for NAB stating the terms and conditions of the Platinum One are the same as the Gold card that is ambiguous too and, to my mind, does not restrict the Platinum One card to accruing rewards points at the same rate as a Gold card, because the document "NAB Qantas Credit Cards - T&C's" does not refer to rewards points earn rates. That rewards earning information is contained in the separate document "NAB Rewards Program T&C's".

I think there's a justifiable challenge to NAB's position on this and they deserve to have a blow torch applied to their butts to be absolutely transparent with offers such as upgrades.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

You have a different card to me then. As mine had the same number as the gold card number. I can also categorically state that I have a platinum one card with an Amex and a Visa. The MC limitation is for the Gold card. As for information on the NAB website platinum one is an invitation only card, there is no need for public information on the website.

I also called NAB about this offer and the CSR clearly stated that nothing would change with the upgrade to Platinum one as did the written invitation. So I clearly understood I was being offer nothing more than a name change on my card. There was a thread about this upgrade and I believe that reached the same conclusion. It is certainly not comparable to the full platinum card, IMO.

Update for those interested.........NAB appears to be abiding by its new catch phrase "Honesty in credit cards with no nasty surprises".

Having pointed out to NAB the numerous contradictions and inconsistencies which made their Qantas Platinum One card upgrade offer misleading when compared to their existing Qantas Platinum Card (despite the fact that technically they did provide correct information) I can report that they have responded positively.

Most noteworthy concession on their part was to credit me over 100,000 FF points which I had previously missed out on due to the Platinum One card having a cap on points received for spending above $10K per month and a lower points earning rate.

Remains to be seen if NAB makes the required changes to its web site to fix the confusion for its customers generally but I can also report that I am now the owner of a "real" Qantas Platinum Amex/Visa card. That might also be a change worth considering for anyone with a Platinum One card with a monthly spend to justify it.

Good result. Thanks for the feedback. Do you might sharing more; Do you have this as part of a package? The one hold back for me is the gold card (and hence platinum one gold card substitute) is free as part of my package. The platinum card isn't and I've had no luck getting them to make it part of the package.

Medhead, I'm not sure how many different pacakges they have but I have a "Choice package" under which my Gold Card was fee free.
I have had it confirmed that my new Platinum Card will also be fee free under the same arrangement so it's a "no brainer" to have it.

Thanks. Only the choice package AFAIK. I'll have to talk to them.
