I avidly read this thread http://www.australianfrequentflyer....rates-first-experience-what-expect-76745.html but thought I'd just add a few more notes and photos and create a new thread. Again I want to thank everyone on this forum otherwise I would never have known about churning CC and being able to do this trip. When I was looking for flights for this trip I couldn't find any J seats. I've usually flown out of Melbourne or Sydney because you could request an upgrade but that does add a few hours to the trip. So an F seat popped up flying directly out of Adelaide for only 40,000 more points so I decided to take it.

I got to the airport about 19.40 using the CD (a Kia van - oh dear DTKWIA - and not much of a queue and quick check in.

Up to Qantas lounge – lots of food scraps on floor and pathetic food offerings not very F like.

Called to board – you go through another small security and there was hardly anyone going through but when I got in it was packed. Immigration was quick. Smart gates and then you just dropped your departure card in the box and away you went.

Boarding was a bit of a zoo because people were trying to board when they called the J and F

EK441 777 300er

Settled in seat and offered 2006 Dom Perignon. I’m not really a champagne person but found out recently that I quite like Veuve so thought I’d give it a go but didn’t really enjoy it.

Offered newspapers magazines pyjama and amenity kit all by different people - the FA's were absolutely delightful and wonderful customer service. I had all women on this leg and only 4 out of 8 F seats occupied.

Breakfast coughtail with warm nuts very good

Had the caviar which was excellent- tried the shot of vodka but didn't need it - didn't like the raw onion with caviar but apart from that it was wonderful. I had plain rolls garlic bread and blinis and melba toast and tried them all.

I asked if could have fish without coriander pesto and it was fine – fish a bit bland but if I liked coriander then it might have helped.

Tried the Mt Mary Pinot but not a big fan and didn't enjoy it so switched to the chateau cos d’estournet 2004 which was lovely.

Had the cheese and was convinced to try the 72 port which was lovely – the were 5 cheeses all a bit cold and no explanation as to what they were – the curd was excellent.

The chocolates were excellent

Bed was very comfortable and loved the screen for privacy and you could get changed in there and not the toilet even though the toilets were large by airplane standards

Breakfast had the French toast and fruit all very nice

The F experience ended when we parked out in the boonies and had to bus it into the terminal but we did have our own first class bus with cream leather chairs.

Interestingly no one was around to help down the stairs so I had to lug my own carry-on down. Not an issue but thought they would have someone to help.

It took about 10 minutes to get to the terminal through security and the a few minutes’ walk to the F lounge where they were very polite and gave me a tour around
Could have free spa treatment but decided I needed a shower more – water pressure in shower wasn't great but it made me feel better

Had breakfast in the dining area – croissant was very dry and not great as was pan au chocolate but had a good smoothie and some fruit.

Chocolates after the meal

Then onto boarding – previously on Qantas flights we boarded straight from the lounge but didn't see any priority boarding and wasn't sure which level to get out – not very well signed but got on fine.

Odd to get a 9.40 am flight out of Dubai and there was no breakfast style food on the menu

No amenity kit or pjs on this leg

About 4/16 empty suites but business looked full

Bar was very nice – had a glass of Veuve and they offered to get the Dom if I wanted it which a couple of J passengers would have liked.

Loved watching the feed from the cameras

Wasn't very hungry so had a glass of wine and the canapes - tres bien

And then - the shower - OMG - it was surreal. 5 minutes of water was fine. I'm from Adelaide so we're always trying to conserve water and so are used to quick showers.

So overall my F experience has spoiled for me for life. I have a J return to Adelaide - QF to DXB and then EK to Adelaide and was wondering if I should cancel that and for another 46000 points go back F as well.

I've travelled F and J on Qantas and Emirates is by far superior in every respect.

I've got more photos and the full menus if anyone wants me to upload them

It's something else, isn't it?

I flew F out and J return last month. Physically, the seats are both very comfy, the amenities and food excellent. The big difference between the two is privacy and service. A little more room in F, and of course there's a shower on the A380.

On the A380 J leg DXB-SYD there were people just behind me who insisted on talking all through the flight. I hadn't had any sleep for a day or so and found their chatter irritating.

I had exactly the same thoughts as you. Upgrade to F on the way back. In the end I decided not to because I've flown EK J before and knew it was a good experience, and I was worried that something might go wrong and I'd lose my J award seats in trying to upgrade. I wasn't keen on trying to do it from deep in Iran, where internet and phone were patchy.

Thanks for sharing the experience and uploading the pix. Your bear much of a traveller?

Paddington was a gift for this trip and he's been out and about a fair bit in the last few weeks while I've been having lots of farewells - he did get left behind in a coughtail bar but luckily he was waiting for me to come back. He's got a little tag around his neck now just in case I have one too many coughtails :)

I have a J reward on the way back and I checked today and there is an F award on the date I want to go back - dilemmas!!

The one downer of being in F is that it becomes the experience to aim for. Burn those points if you want. They are all yours!

Really enjoyed reading your trip report! I've done F once with Emirates, from Auckland to Melbourne. Dying to try it long haul after reading your review. Better get saving the points...

Great summary VPS, I would love to give EK F a go one day, by all accounts it is fantastic. I would say upgrade and enjoy, but that is just my 2 cents ;)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

For just 46,000 points for J to F I'd definitely burn the points. It's only around 2000 points per hour which is good value I reckon.

Thanks for posting your experience. I'm doing the exact same flights in F to London in August, but coming back on SQ in F.

Great trip report. I am also looking forward to F from Perth to Dubai, even if it is on the 777. Thanks again for the photos also,

I think I'm going to stick with J mainly because I also want to try EK J product so I'm doing QF J to DXB from LHR and then EK from DXB to ADL so I'll be able to give them a good comparison. BUT I do have plenty of points and if I'm going to burn points it's so much easier to do EK from ADL than going indirect via East or West coast
