I just tried paying my flight on hold, no go !! tried 5 cards... rang and they said they couldn't accept it. Say I have to ring Australia to make the payment.

I thought it could be paid for over the phone?

update: tried through both the American and Australian website as advised, still didn't happen. The lady at on the Oz number put it through without charge.

AA for a SYD-LAX flight, when I rang America they said do it through the Aus web site and should be fine. Wouldn't accept any of my cards, not sure if I've done something wrong or not but the lady when I called back put it through without charge.

Good it was resolved. I must admit I've never had your problem with travel websites, but that said I usually use Skyscanner and Expedia.

if you are putting a postcode in the postcode field but using an aussie card then it will be rejected. leave it blank and it will go through

And if doing over the phone with USA call centre (and hence paying the lower fee) then add a leading zero to your Aussie post code, so 2144 would become 02144.

Flight Is still under request so I hope it's taking the normal time. If not tomorrow ill be ringing them. As I ended up paying the australian number (n/c) I was asked my address and gave her correct thinking Aussie site. Might call tomorrow if its not ticketed and get them to re check addy and ill give them a new postcode.

AAward taxes were paid by Aus Amex via web site leaving the postcode field blank - ticketed within 15 mins last night.

I bought a ticket on the AA USA website a few days ago using my Australia Velocity (!) Amex with no problem. I put a zero before my postcode as previously stated.

Flight is still not ticketed, I've rung 3 times AUS and US & they've all said it's fine, don't worry it's in the queue to be ticketed. Because the booking is not until May we are putting the others in front. If there's a problem with the processing of the payment at time of ticketing they'll email me. Not much more I can do :(

My billing address is in my AA profile with the postcode 04551 so I don't have to do anything more.
Last night I did an award booking for the end of June next year and it was ticketed within 2 hours so I am not sure of the queue excuse.

I ended up paying via Aus number no charge. I've asked them to check details and they say all good. Obviously concerns me in case I lose it. F to lax

Finally ticketed just now !! I had called again and got someone who called another dept and said there was a technical issue on their side and he would look into it and call me back. phew..... !!

Had the same problem on Saturday night with an 'On Hold' AAdvantage award booking. Website rejected 3 credit cards. Phoned American Airlines to pay, but I was using miles from my daughter's account before they expire, and AA insisted that the credit card must be in the name of the AAdvantage account holder. No flexibility. On the phone for 110 minutes before I finally gave up and let the booking drop off. We've booked flights from my daughter's miles at least 4 or 5 times in the past, and she has never owned a credit card (only just turned 18) so obviously have always paid the fees and taxes using my card in the past. Very frustrating, lost our bookings (part of a sequence with other flights already locked in using miles from other airlines) and it's now also very likely that my daughter's 25,000 miles will expire unless I purchase miles. However, how can I ever book flights using her miles when there is no credit card in her name?

Baysider I have done the same in the past, was using miles from a daughters and a mothers account for their parents. They wanted the c/c for the daughter who is 21 with no c/c. I said the mother is paying and they have the same last name and the daughter no c/c - they accepted that.

I was passed through at least 5 people during my 110 minutes, including 2 supervisors, and nobody would accept a card that didn't have her name on it !!
