Was just thinking in the shower...

To achieve higher status with hotel loyalty programs, you generally require fewer stays than actual nights. Now I've heard of people switching hotels every night in order to get the number of stays up. However, what if you just book each night as a separate booking?

Has anyone ever tried this? Would it count as multiple stays or are the hotels onto people like me who think up crazy schemes while in the shower?

Thoughts?

Thanks :)

David

PS apologies for making you all think of me while I'm in the shower.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Usually the rules of the scheme state that multiple consecutive bookings (even checking out and back in) are only counted as one stay. Depends on the program involved. Check t&cs.

Hence why a hotel shift is required.

Hmmm putting my thinking shower cap on, I suppose that nothing will stop you booking separate nights. But for each booking to be recorded then you would have to check out each morning by 10am and check back in each afternoon after 3pm. No guarantee of getting the same room or floor - thinking of remembering what room you are in (hard enough job at the best of times).

The only positive would be the change over of reception staff shouldn't bring too many odd looks when you book in for the nth time that week.

Funny story time... when the gold coast had three PC hotels (crowne plaza broadbeach, crowne plaza gold towers broadbeach [same hotel but technically a different hotel for booking and staying purposes], and the holiday inn, I needed three different hotel stays for a promo. So had booking 1 at the cp for one night. Booking 2 at the hi for the second night and booking 3 at the cp gold for the same night.

Check into the cp. Dude processes my check-in and says "oh. I was just in the process of preparing your other booking for tomorrow night". He was a little puzzled.

Anyway all worked out fine. As I said earlier the only reason this worked is that the two hotels are seperate in the system but check in is done at the same counter.

While I think I've done it a few times in the past, I definitely did it at the Conrad in Dublin last year. Both bookings counted as stays but, from memory, only one of them got the frequent flyer points.
I didn't mind as it was me genuinely realising that I hadn't booked the room for long enough so I made a new booking for the remaining days.

Most hotel programs specify, in their terms and conditions, that consecutive nights at the one hotel count as only one stay, even if they are on separate bookings and even if you check in and check out each time. In practice, it really means each stay has to be separated by at least one day, if it's to count for loyalty purposes.

Of course, this rule probably came into being because someone did exactly what Daver6 thought of !
