Multiple sectors - how many sectors can you have on a bag tag?

Hi there

I am about to head off to Europe and I have the following legs, all on One World.

SYD/HKG CX
HKG/HEL AY
HEL/FCO AY
FCO/MAD IB
MAD/OPO IB

CX and AY are in J class and IB is on a separate ticket in Y class (but PNRs are linked). So, my question is where should I check my bags to? AY have said I can check from SYD through to FCO, but I only have 2 hours connection time in FCO - is that enough? I have a 7 hr wait in HKG, so could I collect bags there and then check all the way through to OPO?

Any advice appreciated.

Also, does anyone know if the One World lounge in FCO has re-opened after last year's fire?

Cheers
Mark

I'm not sure about your case specifically, but I once travelled 4 oneworld sectors in a row from FCO-LHR-DXB-MEL-CBR on BA/QF. They needed to print 2 bag tags as apparently each individual bag tag can only fit 3 destinations on them. The bag made it to the final destination without a hitch, although this was all on the same booking.

In theory I don't see any reason they couldn't send your bag all the way from Sydney to Porto.

Think you should be able to check luggage all the way through. From memory there are 4 legs on a each bag tag but they should be able to print 2 bag tags.

I beleve 4 is the 'easy' maximum - so agents know how to do more - they are rare.

'Rare' probably because such examples of human endurance ought to be rare.

I reckon I would be looking at that last boarding pass and questioning if I was mad :)

Thanks moa999. Yes, I had heard about the Avia Lounge as a possibility.

I think I will leave the airport in HKG, although it is a Sunday night so may just go to Citygate for a couple of hours. I know that the routing is not ideal but sort of chasing Status credits and also keeping to a budget - hence AY flights as I have used before. I couldn't get a good connection over HKG as flights were full, so stuck with long wait at HKG.
