Right-click has stopped working on my USB mouse although still working on the laptop's built in one. All other mouse functionality is fine.

Do I need to replace the mouse or is there another possible fix?

Note that on Windows based systems, the Program key (typically next to the Alt key, looks like a small menu) can simulate the right click. It's not as convenient and it still has limited use, but if you don't really want to part with what you have, it may be an alternative (short of just using your laptop's touchpad).

You can pick up computer mice really cheap these days. I'd probably just ditch the one you have and replace it.

Prob a mechanical issue in the mouse. New one prob best. They're cheap, don't pay more than $25.

That's expensive. Last time I looked they were $10-15 for wireless in Woolies.

I paid around $25 or so for a decent Bluetooth mouse that wasn't too big and good ergonomics.

I'm claiming it from tax so that kind of minimised the effect of having to pay a lot for a mouse.

I'm not the biggest fan of the wireless mice (i.e. the ones that use a USB receiver on specific wireless band channel and not Bluetooth). Unless they have improved over time, their reliability, I've found, has been questionable. I'd rather have a corded mouse if need be, and they should be easy to pick up at most $10 or so.

My suggestion is you shake the beegeeus out of it, hurl it at the wall, yelling a lot of expletives at the same time, if it doesn't work after that you know it is time to buy a new one. :p

And yet I know people who have $200+ mice - mostly gamers.

For wireless - I've had good experience with Logitech but mostly $50+

Gamers spend much more on their hardware all round than I would pay....

You're possibly right Daniel. I only manage to get 2-3 years out of each one. o_O

I used a lot of wireless mice of other friends and colleagues, and sometimes the problem was getting the mouse to pick up the wireless receiver. (Similar problems when people used other wireless devices like presentation remote controls). They continued to "work" for a long time, but sometimes they were hard to rely on.

Bluetooth was much more reliable and didn't require another piece for the receiver (and saves a USB port, which on smaller devices today, is important). However, depending on how much you used it, it does burn through batteries faster and is overall more expensive.
