The public areas have an abundance of light, space and ambience.

Breakfast was well above average.

Will happily return for future GC stays.

We've stayed at the Mirage in Port Douglas a few times in the Villas. It has to be one of the most beautiful places around with all the gardens and lagoons!

The bathrooms in particular look really good, and I'd heard that they hadn't been touched recently, so I'm pleasantly surprised!

Sam, those comments - which are wrong, anyway - refer to the rooms in the main resort buildings, not the villas.

The bathrooms in the main resort have all had new basins, toilet suites, tapware and mirrors installed - and they look really nice. Some people are complaining because the marble tiles haven't been replaced (no need) and the triangular bath/shower/spa has not been replaced by a walk-in shower, as is the current fashion.

Correct. We stayed in a 2 bed villa - fully renovated, completed last month.

Recommended restaurants

Salsa Bar & Grill ... this is a PD favourite - it can be difficult to get a table. Outstanding flavours - eat here!

The refurbishment has done the job.

The public spaces are vast and need a little tweaking to make them a little softer and raise the ambience.... the guest rooms look really nice - they've done a good job!

We stay on the coast for 2 or 3 weekends in August every year (kids competitive at eisteddfods) and last two stayed at Sheraton due to SPG. Spoken to them a few times about the showers and they it continues to be their biggest source of complaints. I don't understand why they don't fix them. They are atrocious. I would have to say they are the worst of any hotel I have ever stayed at. For a place claiming to be 5 star, that is unacceptable.

Not sure whether we will stay there again next year.

Next time book a 2 or 3 bed villa - completely renovated and pretty good value for families.

We secured a rate that included b'fast, beach towels and coughtails for all four of us.... kids missed out on the coughtails.
