For upcoming trip, I needed a replacement for an ageing Toshiba Potregè. Looked at the apple air but decided on the Surface 3 pro. Obviously they will now come out with a pro 4 !

But I am happy to recommend the Surface. Nice machine if a little heavy. (Portegè was 875gm). Works well with keyboard cover, windows 8.1 is ok with some quirks but one can acces the normal desktop easily.

im still not convinced that the surface as a product has a market for the long term, i use a 10in 8.1 tablet with keyboard when on the road and a full laptop in the office. couldnt see myself junking the full laptop for a 12in tablet as the form factor in the keyboard and screen just wouldnt cut it for day to day work. that and the 10in tablet i use costs less than half of a new surface pro

Was at a conference and chatting to someone doing some work with MS. Told me to hold of on my purchases as some great things were in the pipeline. Though not likely to see it until after the next iPhone launch but in time for holiday sales.

I've been using a SP3 as my main PC now for six months and loving it. Only drawbacks are the lack of sim card slot and an additional USB port would've helped.

Will definitely consider getting an SP4 as an upgrade.

I have a Toshiba portege I love, it's my second one. It's getting a bit old now so time to start considering what to get next. Mr Timtammi bought a SP3 as his main laptop about 6 months ago and I was highly sceptical at the time. He has the dock and full kb for work and the travel snap on kb for travel. I've seen how it works for him as we are business partners too and I think I'm sold. He Loves it. I will wait for th sp4 and then jump I think.

Yes I was skeptical at first too, bought it it or be a "presentation" device and was getting a Dell laptop as the main device. But Dell delayed and annoyed me, by then I realised the SP3 did everything I needed quite nicely, so also got the dock and a few accessories, now its all I use.

Me too. I have a docking station and connect my 21 inch screen when in the office, away from the office I use the snap on keyboard. Great machine, and works brilliantly for me.

How do you cope with the SP3 in sofa mode; that is, sitting on the sofa? I've been impressed watching colleagues using the SP3 as their only machine, but I tend to use my laptops on my lap - not sure how that would work with the SP3?

The kick stand has a good range of angles to rest on your lap if you're sitting, and the keyboard is just like a laptop keyboard would be. Or you just hold it like a tablet, albeit quite a heavy tablet.

I haven't tried it in "sofa mode" but if I did would use it as a tablet most likely.

I very much like my Surface 3 Pro. One gets used to using it just like a laptop that a has touch screen. The keyboard works well. But beware! Don't get used to thinking it's a laptop and slide it off the table/desk by the keyboard lest the screen becomes not supported and then drops off the keyboard into your foot! Nearly broke my big toe like this!

Needing to upgrade MrP's laptop. Looking at the Pro3 as we can't wait for the 4. How do people find the keyboard? FWIW, the gateway had a very flat keyboard which MrP loathed - he wants depth. I heard the newish keyboard had more travel - are the keys flat on the board or are they raised a little? Tx.

With the SP3 is that there is an option for part of the keyboard to be attached to the screen which causes the keyboard to not lie flat on the surface - this is an issue for me as there is some give on the keyboard as I type and it "gives me the ****s". You can lie the keyboard flat but it still doesn't feel quite right for me - I can live with it where I need to.

I have actually purchased a Logitech K810 keyboard to use in place of the SP3 keyboard/cover and just rip off the keyboard/cover if I need to do a significant amount of typing. Just bought a Surface Arc Touch mouse on the weekend to try out...didn't really like it much.

Nothing is certain about the specs but I read the product will be released (?) on 06 Oct. I reckon that's when it will be announced, availability to follow sometime thereafter.

I can understand that. Does it also move downwards as you type?
Yeah - not willing to wait for the new one and maybe prices will fall more for the 3.

Do any of you connect it to projectors/TV's for presentations?

I read that review earlier Foreigner which is where I started the search.
