I know there is some taxes and fuel surcharges but really MH have gone nuts :D

International airfare deals from $138 | Travel | News.com.au

One carrier, Malaysia Airlines, is offering fares as low as $138 return to Buenos Aires ($1343 including tax), $576 to Paris ($1441 with tax) and $160 to Bangkok ($1862), from Adelaide.

hhhhhh :shock::rolleyes:

A spokeswoman for Malaysia Airlines said the company hoped its specials, available until the end of the month, would "spark some good travelling for people and give people the opportunity to experience these amazing destinations".

"We have (return) flights (from Adelaide) to the Indian sub-continent for $226 plus taxes of $852 – (which is) $1078 to Mumbai," she said.

Taxes etc are more than 10 times the base fare for some destinations ! And the fares mentioned here are not really anything to get that excited about wen you consider more direct options.

I know we are all aware of the taxes con, but i just thought this was too funny not to post ! (Makes JAL look good)

The taxes are really just window dressing - they make the Enrich program rather worthless that is all.

The CDG isn't a bad option ex-Oz. $1411 to europe not bad. Hard to find fares to Europe this cheap ex-Asia.

Yes agree on those points :)
I wonder how people react when they turn up at there local travel agent and get told the taxes on ADL-KUL-BKK is $1702 ... and the base fare is $160 on top of that :D
I am sure its not suprising to us... and i am sure a lot of people would expect 400 or 500 taxes but would imagine great shock at taxes twice as much as my RTW trips.

as a travel agent these fares really annoy me. the reason they do it is to pay us no commission, us, Best Flights, Zuji, Expedia whoever it is we all get paid the same way. basically MH pay a 7% comm on the fare, so if it's $160 we get paid $11 to do the booking. unless i can do it in about 20 seconds and the person pays straight away its not worth my time, unless you charge a service fee. JAL did the same but are starting to come to their senses. Agents prefer the airlines to be like EK and EY and charge $100 taxes to Europe and pay a lower % of comm, say 5%. at least you make $100 on a RT to europe....and it's easier for the consumer to understand.

Tell me again why anyone would consider flying MH.

Fares that one could almost describe as dishonest. Now I know how Bestfares can advertise such low fares. No FF scheme to speak of and no real alliance membership either.

The Malaysian Govt (who, let's face it, control MH) are a little out of touch with reality. But it's their funeral...

They are kidding aren't they?

What specials? I could not care less how low they advertise a lead-in airfare. It is the total airfare that is important. Some people in marketing think they are really clever! NOT....

What specials?

$1411 to Paris. In recent times it has been a struggle to get anything on a full service carrier for less than $1700-$1800 to Europe.

$810 to Manila. $1050 to Mumbai/Delhi, $1300 to NYC again all not too shabby for a non-LCC.
