MEL Terminal 4 - Is there a more poorly designed experience?

Came through the other day. No air bridge, hoardes of people waiting for late flights blocking the exit, tasteless architecture and such a hike to the front gate.

is this the worst example of modern terminals ???

Are there any worse ones?

T4 is designed to be cheap, not good......

No, I don't think there is a worse modern terminal, anywhere. If they could charge you for light and oxygen I reckon they would, too.

Strangely enough, the cattle pen used by JQ at MEL prior to the move to T4 was worse for PAX than the current arrangement.

I agree with Serfty.The whole experience at T4 MEL compared to the previous set up is markedly better for pax.

I must say I really do hate the long walk to the JQ gates at T4. While their old set up at T1 was small and crowded you could at least spend your time in the Qantas lounge.

It does provide a nice sheltered walk to the bus.

I must say I really do hate the long walk to the JQ gates at T4. While their old set up at T1 was small and crowded you could at least spend your time in the Qantas lounge.

And therein lies part of the rationale for the new T4, I am sure.

I heard from a friend at MEL that JQ wanted T4 that way. If there is any truth to that I don't know but if I'm on JQ ex. HBA I usually transit SYD instead now, I find it easier to access the lounge at SYD T3 and duck back over to T2 to board.

Have to say, I "over-flowed" on A VA arrival once....three flights up the stairs, and out of breathe, and the GA winked at me as I almost experienced a T4-asthma-attack!

I remember sitting in the old demountable at SYD to catch an Impulse Airlines flight in 2000 - where the DHL building currently is. That was pretty bad!!

Just passed through there this afternoon. Not the most pleasant of experiences....

For Australia, it would surely have to be up there with the worst. But certainly not the worst in the world. One example that comes to mind is the new LCC terminal at BUD:

Thats horrible - they just need to put up the mesh metal and some barbed wire and the effect would be complete! What was the architectural design breif there - "prison chic" ?

VA drop a lot of their flights in at T4 now - not the best for their brand!

We're talking about the 2 VA gates at the start of T4? I haven't been into the actual Tiger/Jetstar T4 I don't notice anything wrong with the VA T4 gates? You basically walk out into the food court area.
