...after all the passengers on the QF8409/EK409 to DXB have gone through outgoing immigration and international security processing.
Does anyone know. I have an inkling that they do lock the doors, but would just like to be sure.
I was on my first F to AKL a while back, on EK, and there was a line at the frosted glass door, and it wasn't open.
Would like the most time in the EK lounge for breakfast, so am planning to get as early into the MEL airport secure zone as possible.
EK409 departs at 6am, so would have been open for the 3am check in.
This is for early Mar, and yes, I know by end of Mar no more F from MEL - AKL.

Hi Poochie,

Took the EK409 earlier this year (which was a 6am departure). International Departures didn't open until 4am, then there was only 1 security machine working and none of the smart gates were operating ... wasn't the best of departure experiences - and certainly not worth getting to check-in early to just wander around the kitsch China-made, Australia themed gift shops!

Regards,

BD

This is a Qantas forum. This belongs in the Emirates forum...

... Except whenever I've flown out of MEL on EK metal I've earnt QF SCs!

Regards,

BD

The question relates to an operational matter regarding Emirates - the fact the flight was bought on a codeshare is inconsequential. Shall I post my Avis car hire questions here just because I earn QF points? Or Woolworths?

If the information related to QF points, why not? If it relates to how to deal with a flat tyre, probably not.

In fact, the question relates to an operational question relevant to anyone using MEL first thing in the morning. To that extent, it probably belongs in a more general forum where those of us who *would* be earning SCs on that flight wouldn't see it ...

Which is my point - this post doesn't relate to QF points or anything at all to do with Qantas.

Just because there's more people looking at the QF forum doesn't make it the correct forum to post it in to (otherwise why don't we just get rid of all the sub-forums and post everything into Qantas). Anyway, I've said my piece. I don't really care.

... and a very succinct piece it was, too!

Not strictly true that this has *nothing* to do with Qantas, since the OP related the QF codeshare - which I, too, related to in my response.

Regards, in piece (ahem ...!),

If you’re departing at this time of day in a premium cabin then surely all you need in a lounge is a coffee, or a glass of bubbly if you’re that way inclined? Maybe a shower too.

Get your breakfast on board and then relax into the flight. I’ll happily spend 4 hours in SYD F or MEL F during the day but at 5am all I’d want is to get into my seat.

Are you implying that I used piece when I should have used peace? Because the saying is definitely piece.

Which section should the argument of where this post should be go? Should it be in the EK or QF thread since both are mentioned? Maybe there should be a general section for those just looking for an argument?

Pooch I really don't know what your concern is. Plenty of int flights between 0600-0900. The EK406 to AKL departs at 0810 and you wil labsolutely be able to get through immigration ("the frosted door") between 0500-0700.

Honestly the QF F lounge opens prior to 6 (as trhe first QF AKL departure is around 0700 IIRC) and it is no issue to go through at 0530 or 0600 for that 8am flight.

I don't seek EK409 as relevant as there are a number of flights that depart prior to EK406 and int security/customs will be open.

so... you can have heaps of time to enjoy yoiur breakfast.

I will be probably aiming to go through around 0600-0630 myself in the next weke for the 406 to AKL. I am noc concerned one iota about "the frosted glass doors"

This is my last (final) cheap way to see and feel the MEL EK lounge.
Yes, its more a MEL international airport operational question, and *probably* would have been better elsewhere in the forum, but I thought with so of our QF flying colleagues loving EK so much, and their F/J is better trans Tasman, thought it might be a bit better here.
The next time, or if I want to try it after Mar, would have to be flying EK with a QF flight number on the evening flight to SIN, more $$$ though.
Maybe QF SG members flying purely QF trans Tasman might still get access to the MEL EK lounge, but I could be knocked back if I tried it after end of Mar, don't want a knock back.
So, thats it then, something "nice" to look forward to, heh.
Thanks all.

For the non MEL travellers, what and/or where is the 'frosted door'?
Pleb_status, its the auto doors at T2 MEL airport, prior to international outgoing security, as mentioned by our colleague above.
Lots of shops and eateries around it.
Next time you pass MEL T2, have a look see.
Of course, you might not have a need to be passing MEL T2 anytime soon.
