I've been waiting to book a one way SIN to PER with a stopover in MEL for 3 days flight as a Business Saver. Just been able to confirm the dates I need (July 15th SIN to MEL and July 19th Mel to PER) but I noticed the flight cost has jumped from approx $2950 SGD to over $4000 SGD. I've been tracking the flights for the past few months and it has jumped in the last week.

Anyone know why?

Try on another computer. There are stories of some websites using cookies to alter price. I've never noticed it with Qantas but worth checking.

Phone the WP line. The fares are real. For fun I also checked a SIN-PER return in J-Saver ...wait for it over SGD8,000.

Qantas/Perth - not happy Jan

Could this have anything to do with them being in the new business suite?

Stopovers over 24 hours are not allowed in SYD/MEL/BNE on the "D" class saver fares.

Ex-Singapore it does allow stopovers but at the moment there seems to be a problem - I've check the fare rules routing for both the D and C class fares and they have this message:

>FR*18
SIN-PER TUE-01DEC15 QF
ADULT FARES
CX FARE FARE C AP MIN/ SEASONS...... MR GI DT
SGD BASIS MAX
18 QF 4250.00R CFSG C + /12M R EH

SPECIFIED ROUTE:6000

PER IS MISSING FROM THE PUBLISHED ROUTING

Normally it would have SIN-SYD/MEL/BNE-PER under routing - maybe they're about to finally launch the QF 737s PER-SIN-PER as was rumoured?

There is certainly something funny.

When I looked week or two ago they were definitely Bus Saver fares and the cost of SIN-MEL alone was the same as SIN-PER via MEL, whether I do a multi city with a 3 day stopover in MEL or just go straight through (i.e. 2954 SGD)

Now the straight through routing is 4800 SGD and the stopover routing is 4068 SGD which .....

(1) is 30% increase
(2) the opposite of what I would have thought (i.e. direct with no stopover should be cheaper)

Also, this price is MEL-ADL-PER on the last leg. If I choose an alternative of MEL-PER direct it is more expensive again. Usually the multi leg flights are the more expensive ones.

Go figure.
