I believe the Marriot Bar and Restaurant discount program (details here) differs to the Marriot Club Members paid program.... And I'm interested to get people's thoughts/experiences with the bar and restaurant discount program.

It'd seem after the Sheraton and Marriot merger and the new Bon Voy program that Marriott have made this redemption process much more tedious that it needs to be.

From what I remember when you checked out of rooms pre merger, you'd automatically have the bar and restaurant discount applied to all room charges that you assigned while dining at the properties locations. This meany while at the pool bar as an example you'd just sign all the receipts and add your room number without needing to mention the discount.

What I've just experienced and been told at a Sheraton property in APAC is that every single receipt I get I have to tell the waiter that I've got status, and then proceed to show them my Bon Voy app for them to write my member number and name down. They then come back with a revised receipt with the discount applied that I sign and list my room against.

This means if you're at a pool bar for a day and have a dozen orders go through across the day, you have to repeat the above steps and only the member can sign/get the discount as they need to show their details within the app. Rather than everyone ordering, and at checkout everything receives the discount.

Is everyone else seeing this?

Do you tell them when you order about your status so they don't need to waste time reprinting receipts? And any advice for pool bars where lots of transactions are happening as I wouldn't always be around when my family orders...

I normally tell them when I ask for the bill.

There are a number of components to the Marriott Bonvoy 'Asia' program.

1. Kids (they get goodies)
2. Spa Discount
3. Dining and Bars Discount
4. Points

Your question related to the Dining and Bars.

Points
If you stay at the hotel simply charge the food/drinks to your room and it will go to your points total against the folio. If you are not staying at the hotel then be sure to fill out the white form at the bar or the restaurant when you are settling the bill. Take a photo of it and keep your receipt in case you need to claim missing points later. You enter your member # on this white chit of paper. You get 10 Points per 1 USD $ spent

Discount
The other aspect to this is the discount. 10% for Members/Silver | 15% for Gold and 20% for Platinum and above. To get this show your card (on the app) and the waiter/bartender will simply deduct it from your final bill.

...and yes this is a Marriott sanctioned program run by Marriott global at most Asian properties.

If staying in the hotel, you must have the discount recorded upon paying the bill. You cannot go at check out and ask the front desk to apply it. They simply won't. Of cour

Club Marriott is an Asian based dining and stay program you must subscribe to and pay a fee ( Club Marriott | ) ...the weird thing now is the 25% discount you get from Club Marriott is close to what you get if you are a Platinum (20%) on dining ..but there are other offers as well for me to use it.

As an aside I have spent painstaking hours reading the T's and C's on this program and the previous programs as well as the Bonvoy Asia dining/spa/kids program ..

Yep, I've just started doing this, and have told a pool bar waiter that I'll be here with the family all day so every order needs the discount applied and he seems to have understood this so every bill for orders now has the discount applied straight away instead of him having to write my details down every bill and come back with the updated discount total so that's good!

Thanks so much for this info! It's interesting as I'm currently in New Caledonia but it doesn't appear on the Asia Bon Voy page for me to review what's available. I didn't know about the spa package so when I check out I'll ask them about the 10ppd as we did a spa day as well.

It'll be interesting at the end of this trip to see if all the bonus points came through correctly!!

At the BNE Marriott mine "just happen". I sit at the bar, drink, and just sign the docket and leave. Next morning when I check out the discount is already on the final bill

Are you saying that the bar they 'know' and 'recognize' your status and apply the correct 20% (if Platinum for example) to your automatically? If so, that is great and that is how it is supposed to work ..nice. Usually they have to be reminded or they ask to see card or image on phone.

And yes if you are billing to your room the points will be collected against your folio and total spend...

Wish all locations were so smooth!

No the bar staff don't know me (I'm only lowly silver so 10%) it just happens somehow behind the scenes automatically

I'm silver too, but had to show my Bonvoy number and give the staff my name every single order. I asked them half way through the stay if they could put all my orders from the 1 sitting on the same receipt so I only had to give them my details once and they did this a few times.

But having it auto apply on checkout would be great as it'd cover every transaction anyone in your room made... Seems common sense and much more efficient for everyone!
