Hey everyone,

During my ex-TPE mileage run I stayed at the Mandarin Oriental Jakarta for one night. They had been closed for 2 - 3 years while undergoing some major renovations. My visit was brief but I tried maximise it.

Firstly, like some hotels in Indonesia do, you will not be greeted by a hotel representative as you get off the plane. I noticed a representative from the Shangri-La and one other hotel greeted some guests and escorted them through the 'Diplomatic/Elderly/Disabled' line. This was not offered to me from MO but I don't really care either.
After customs, i collected my baggage and once through the baggage x-ray I found the MO guy, he took my baggage and I was whisked away to the MO.

On arrival to the MO, they were obviously expecting me and I was greeted my name in the lobby and told that they will escort me straight to my room where they will handle the check-in. I was escorted by one of the front desk staff and one of the baggage staff. I had only booked a standard room not a club room.

Check-in was very brief and they offered to show me round the room but I declined.

The Room:
Feels very spacious. Nice decor and colours. Bathroom is a nice size. Shower is big with hand-held and rain shower. You cannot have both turned on at the same time though. Bath looked quite comfy...and deep.
Bed is very comfortable too.
Internet is VERY fast. Very good for bit torrents:mrgreen:
And all the adaptors/plugs/points you need are there.

Restaurants: Only had the breakfast buffet. Good spread, all the usuals and kept fresh.

MO Bar: Went there the night I arrived. Fairly nice. It's dark, lots of lounges and music was pretty good (not typical) coughtail and snack menu is very typical of most MO Bars but hey it doesn't really disappoint. All the drinks were spot on however the MO GM of Bars was watching.
Anyway, it was nice and more and more people seemed to be coming in as the night went on. I left at midnight.

Room Service: Had a burger after coming back from the bar. It was pretty good but a little too rare even though I asked for rare.

CONS: I was electrocuted. Before I went to the MO Bar I was about to dry my hair with the hairdryer. I took it out of the draw, went to plug it in and at the last second I saw that behind the actual plug, i could see the wires/metal bits. Not the inside of the cord but the actual adapter/plug I was holding. It was one of the British ones.
So anyway, by the time my brain clicked I had plugged it in, got shocked fell back, threw the hairdryer away and all the lights were off. I was naked. I was freaking out in the pitch black but found the phone (and my clothes) and dialed reception.
The duty manager and two electricians came up.
They were really nice and apologetic once they'd heard my story. They found the clip that closes the wires inside the draw.
Afterwards I went to the bar.

The following day, nothing was mentioned of this which I was a little suprised about. I was expecting an upgrade or anything taken off my bill but.....eh'

Verdict: I'd stay there again for sure.

If you really were electrocuted, how are you posting this story? :)
