I recently booked CX for the first sector of what I hope to be a J Oneworld award booking in 2017. I signed up to the CX site hoping to view my booking and have the ability to change seats if I wanted to. The Qantas booking reference and ticket number dont allow access to the booking on CX. Is there another way I can view/manage the booking on CX? Will I get a booking reference and ticket number from CX? Last year I was able to log in to BA and manage a booking made using Qantas FF points.

you should be able to select seats via qantas.com on the CX flight

Have you only just made the booking? I've noticed there is sometimes a lag in accessing CX and EK websites but 24 hours later it works.

The booking was made on 1/9 so plenty of time but I think the problem is CX don't recognise the booking or ticket number

Sound advice from yo-yo?! You need the CX reference number. Sometimes when I book with BA and it includes CX and QF legs I might see 3 different booking references in the QF manage my booking section, one for each carrier. (When I include my QFF number in the booking.)

check your eticket for a second reference against the CX flights and try using that to login to cx.com

Checked and rechecked e-ticket and receipt as well as on QF site and only the QF booking reference and ticket number are there

IME the QF & CX PNRs are the same. I have been able to select seats on the CX website with my name and QF PNR.

I should have checked first! I just tried again using my name and the QF booking reference and it worked. Up till now I had tried multiple ways to get in on the CX site without luck. Sorry to waste your time and thanks for the replies.

Cathay site has historically been very particular with names...
They used to use their own 5-digit codes, but moved to Altea/Amadeus in 2012

eg.
SMITH/JOHN not accepted but SMITH/JOHNMR is for example

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
