First-class lounge cough download arrest - National - smh.com.au

A man has been arrested for allegedly downloading child cough in a first-class airport lounge in view of other passengers.

Australian Federal Police Assistant Commissioner Roman Quaedvlieg said the 44-year-old man had been downloading child coughography in the first-class lounge at Melbourne Airport on Friday.

He was using a free access computer at a desk and was overseen by passers-by.

The commissioner said the man had IT expertise and had been able to circumvent the lounge's computer firewalls.

Dead set idiot! Glad to see they pinged him....

Sounds like he used a different proxy to bypass the standard filters.

The lesson there is, don't even think about checking your bank balance or looking at your share portfolio

Wasn't there a mention of someone looking at cough at Sydney Lounge on this very forum a few days ago?

Ewwww!

Yea - but no mention of the type of cough so that could just be a question of etiquette rather than the law.

Unbelievable! Most people have the decency not to browse any type of cough in public let alone child coughography.

You would think wouldn't you !
But atleast a couple of people have been sacked from the company i work for because they were looking at cough (not just on there notebooks, actually looking at it at work !)

Amazing that anybody would be that stupid but from the number of incidents it seems there is more than we would all expect.

You know what they say, the problem with common sense is it's not that common!

Maybe this is a good thing. Maybe if more people did this - more of them would be caught.

Not sure I understand this comment.

You wouldn't want someone looking over your shoulders and see how much money you have, right?

Personally not bothered about that, If someone sees how much money I have and they don't know me it's not really important but I get your point - expect people to be nosing around looking at what you are up to. I guess looking at some of the comments here about people using computers for "non business purposes" and saying that is inappropriate reflects people looking over other's shoulders.

Even at work, when I see someone looking at non-work stuff, I always try and look away or ignore it, hoping that they would extend the same courtesy to me.

For those interested, (I believe) this case recently made it's way through the courts.

"Mark Stephen Heers, 45, of St Leonards, NSW, pleaded guilty in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday to three counts of using the internet to access child coughography, including on a public computer at the Qantas Club last September.

Heers was arrested after a fellow passenger saw him looking at coughographic images on the computer and alerted staff, who notified the Australian Federal Police."

"She convicted and sentenced Heers to a 12-month community based order."

How dumb would you have to be.

On the plus side the sicko got caught.

On the negative side, lets hope this doesn't lead to the removal of internet access in QPs or FLounges.

May I assume that now he has been convicted his membership will be cancelled with forfeiture of points and SCs?

Possibly based on the nature of the conviction rather than the actual conviction itself.

Is there are rule that FF members should not be convicted of an offence?

I was thinking that as well. As abhorrent as the crime is I can't see a justification for the termination of membership based purely on a conviction for an offense. They potentially could use the reason that he was inappropriately using QP internet though...

Agreed, and I would expect that if any action were to be taken re QP access, it would already have been done.
