Just about to book to Business Class seats with MAS for March 2012 at 9913.00 for 2 seats. I have never flown MAS and not sure what to expect comfort wise. Have joined their Enrich program and also have Velocity membership, does anyone know whether I can earn points on both ?
Also re insurance should I take out insurance now to cover in case of any unexpected changes or buy some land content with my ANZ plat card which we normally use for insurance but cannot do that until 6 months out from date of travel.
All advice re seating on the 777 200 to KL or 747 to LHR would be appreciated. Hoping that I can request seats at booking time
Thanks:p

You can generally only earn points with one program, I’m not sure why you think you’d be able to double dip?

have flown J on MH in AprilSyd - KUL - Syd.No Flat Bed, but the ones that are nearly flat. still great and able to get a good sleep (with and without alcohol). Food and drinks aplenty. (don't order the Gluten Free meal unless you are desperate, i did one way and cancelled for the return).Staff are wonderful. Greeted by name on boarding and also the fact that i was the GF meal. great even with my husband and daughter too, who were sitting in a seperate section ( i volunteered to sit solo somewhere else......). they still gave me all the paperwork to fill in, and told my husband that they'd already give me the forms (hahahaha)the Lounge in Sydney is small and spartan but you can order freshly cooked noodles, soup etc, and the staff all willing to assist.the Lounge at KLIA is great. plenty of food/ drinks/alcohol / internet acccess (and private smoking room where you can even take your drink with you). a massage room full of massage chairs where my daughter managed to sleep for 3 hoursmovie choices all good. hadn't seen most of them, but that's my life.i have no hesitation in flying MH Business at any time, especially with their prices.(the doona is worth keeping too) . on return from KL a couple of weeks ago, there was only 4 of us in an 11 seat section with 2 FA's all to ourselves. they were absolutely wonderfuli was due to do a trip report, but am sorry have not had time.let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks so much for all the info, great detail. Don't want to double dip was just asking as I has read somewhere about the two programs and we have joined both of them so may as well earn something for the trip. Thanks again

The MH Business special that's currently out is fully non-refundable once issued, so I would highly recommend you have some insurance in place at the time you pay for the flights incase anything crops up.

You can definitely book the seats, if booking through a TA, they'll be able to bring up a seat map and assist you in selecting seats when you're making the booking or anytime after that.

Enjoy, they're a good airline and even better at that price.

Thanks for the note re insurance, I am paying today so will definitley get some insurance and hopefully on my ANZ Plat card, think I need to book $250 worth of land ie hotel/car etc to be eligble for the cover and will need to look into the finer print of it all..unless someone has some other thoughts ?

I lived in KL for a few years and flew Malaysian business every couple of months (even managed a few flights in F). Excellent service. I'm sure you wont be dissappointed.

In terms of seating the 777 has so much leg room it really doesn't matter where you sit. On the 747 the upper deck is the way to go. I always used to check in through the Qantas transfer desk as a WP and would request 9A - upper deck exit row. Restricted view, but massive leg room and you still have the storage compartment at the side. Avoid the downstairs seating (unless you can get in to First).

The lounge at KLIA is, in my opinion, one of the best J lounges in the world. Excellent food, great ambience and the massages (user pay) are excellent.

  • No, I cannot see any point in buying insurance, unless you are expecting to be hospitalized.

  • Credit to Velocity but you will 100% definitely have to chase them up after your return - it would be most rare if they post the points automatically.

  • There are 2 MH flights per day from MEL. I'd pick the midnight departure and not the 3pm departure. The midnight departure allows you a good sleep straight up and then a nice shower in the Business Lounge in KUL. The subsequent 4pm London arrival is perfect. The alternative flight leaves MEL at 3pm an arrives into LHR at 5.45am; that is uncivilised.

I use ANZ platinum for insurance.

You need to put AUD250 onto the card which needs to be prepaid travel.

You airline ticket in itself will be enough for this.

Unlike many other credit card insurance policies, even if you take an award ticket (i know this is not your case)... the taxes and charges are usually more than 250 and so you are covered!

As far as I am aware, the 6 months is the period you are covered while you are away - you don't have to wait until 6 months prior to departure to be covered.

No need to get additioanl insurance. But to make sure and give yourself peace of mind, just give them a call. They are quick to answer and always helpful.

Thanks MEL

I paid with my American Express for the full points value (side note that Flight Centre wanted to charge 1.9% surcharge, but by booking direct with MAS they were not going to charge this so Flight Centre took off the 1.9% and beat the MAS price anyway) $9638 for two J Class. So I am going to prebook some accommodation this weekend and pay the $250 plus to cover us for the ANZ Plat Insurance...no real concerns except my Mum who has some pre existing conditions that are quite serious and looks like I would not be covered if anything happened to her (fingers X nothing does). Not sure if there is anything I can do about getting her situation covered and doubt it. Spoke with MAS yesterday direct and confirmed all seating but our Velocity Numbers has not been loaded but have been now and like previous post will chase them up on our return.
Thanks for all the great info all

Thats a great price!

Pre-existings are a problem, but then if ANZ can't cover them I guess no one will! (Well, someone will but the cost may be very high!)

I too have just booked Melb-KL-Male-KL-LHR-KL-Melb for July '11 travel and looking forward to travelling with them. There prices were good and times to Male suited. Had travelled CP and Singapore prior and found both to be very good. I too took insurance just don't want to take chances on holidays.
