Anyone tried to get a refund from Luxury Escapes? I got a a refund from Jetstar for the airfare part of the package but they ( Luxury) wont refund for the hotel, just an Extention on the date to use by. Just thought I would ask the question, thanks in advance.
 
There was a bit of media a few weeks back about LE only giving extensions on bookings but no. refunds. Made the evening news from memory - an older couple who had booked an African safari and felt that a 12 month extension was not going to work as they would not be fit enough to travel by then.

I know the LE business may not have much choice if they have themselves paid the provider. I think LE is going to have brand damage similar to the way Flight Centre was 'right' to stiff their customers. Who is going to book/trust LE or FC?

I don't think LE would "not have much choice if they have themselves paid the provider", at all. Rather, I think they're being coughs by trying to hold on to the commissions/profit they would otherwise forego if they offered refunds. Offering credits to customers means they keep the cash even though I expect they would, in many cases, be able to get refunds of money already paid to hotels & resorts etc. because a force majeure would be triggered.
Sure, Covid-19 has turned out to be a bigger problem that many would have contemplated, but tourism operations have often been disrupted by diseases like SARS and norovirus on cruise ships, in the past. Tourism companies would/should have contingencies in place (such as insurance and Ts & C's in contracts) to protect themselves in circumstances exacly like such disease outbreaks.
LE deserves all the bad publicity that comes their way because they have brought it on themselves by treating their customers appallingly.
 
I'm looking at booking a package on LE for a lodge in Queensland for dates in late August - Now I'm worried about the NSW-QLD border re-closing if the CV outbreak in VIC spreads to NSW. There is no CV "guarantee" on LE's website or T&Cs / Fine Print - I've sent them an e-mail query. I realise I can do a date change BUT this would be a part of other FNQ activities (Carins and Port Douglas) - my flights and other accomodation bookings can be cancelled free of charge (if CV kicks in again).

Really not sure what to do - will report back IF I get a response from LE - will try to call today as well.

They told me it’s unlimited date changes during Covid rather than the usual one freebie.
 
I made no progress on getting a refund for a voucher for a MEL hotel now closed till mid August at this stage. The voucher is valid until the end of December at which time I will phone LE to get a credit note which will be valid for 12 months.
At the end of that 12 months I will need to make a booking for something which will take the value out to December 2022.

Fortunately it was a cheap exercise of only around $350. Good luck to the rest of you who bought expensive holidays.
