Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone had an thoughts and/or advise of what I can do regarding lounge access on an upcoming trip

SYD/FRA - Cathay with a 5 hour layover in HKG

FRA/SFO - Lufthansa

SFO/SYD - United

I an a QF flyer but currently no status.

I have a united acct - no status there either.

I have a basic platnium AmEx credit card (not charge card) and also a Citibank Platinum.

I heard that you can purchase United club access

And was thinking of purchasing priority pass for HKG and FRA.

BUT the I was thinking of changing my AmEx to a platnium reserve credit card which comes with 2 x priority passes and also the free domestic flight (i was just today going to book a flight SYD/MEL. to upgrade to this card it is $395 per year (currently i only pay $80)

Priority Pass would certainly be the best option.. and combining it with the reserve card would help (no lounges in SYD I'm afraid though)..

Sounds like the decision has been made!

Thanks for the reply.

I noticed no SYD lounge that's okay can live with that.

Just wondering it it was worth my while getting the new CC - or if i should just pay separately for the flight (currently on sale for under $200 - how easy are those "free" flights to book?) and the lounges?

I've never had an issue booking the free flights, but that was a while ago as I've used the hotel nights the last 2 times. You could always use the flight later on, you have 12 months to book it.

Priority pass would still be worth it as you know you will be able to get into lounges worldwide.

But it is only 2 passes - aren't they $27 or something?

Trying to weigh the cost benefit.

$395 for the new credit card vs $200 SYD/MEL fare and 2 x lounge passes

Yes but you need the card to gain entry. You can't just walk up.. The card alone is about $200 from memory..

the cheapest Priority Pass membership is $100/annum, so those 2 passes are worth $100 + $27 + $27 = $154 each year

You can actually just rock up in Hong Kong. It's called Traveler's Lounge. HKD$150 for a shower, more for other stuffs. (Check prices)

But I agree with above. Just upgrade your card to platinum reserve and get yourself a Priority Pass, so you can use lounges around the world, not just Hong Kong.
