I have two options for coming home from our CHC dinner in March.

I can buy an NZ ticket for $397, or the VA ticket for $424.

As I'm VA gold, and will have my partner with me, I'd like for us to have lounge access in both CHC and AKL on the way home.

Can I buy the NZ ticket, put my Velocity FF number into the booking, and get lounge access? Or do I have to buy the VA ticket in order to get lounge access?

I know it's not a big price differential so I just wanted to be sure I don't shoot myself in the foot just to save a few pennies.

Cheers!

I have done this a few times in the past. Economy ticket on Air New Zealand and as V Gold have had lounge access and decent seat at the airport check in.

Can usually get a works deal for similar price to Qantas saver.

I am looking to book a trip for later in the week and to be honest this is the only reason I bother with Velocity at all these days.

Can anyone confirm that they have still the same benefits since the November changes?

I could not see any mention of this on the New Zealand web site even though the Virgin one indicates it is still the case, so was kind of wondering if anyone has actually done a trip since then?

As others have said - yes! Doesn't matter who you buy the ticket from you will have lounge access due to your status. I've bought tickets from both and have no issues in either country. If you buy from NZ there is a space for you to enter your VA # so you don't have to worry about changing at airport. So go the cheaper ticket (usually NZ out of NZ). Agree with Tom - CHC has a nice lounge good viewing, cosy feel to it.

Thanks all.

Sounds like it is still the same as it was,

I have a related question. I'm VA Gold and will be flying NZ domestic next week with 2 friends. I believe I'm entitled to one lounge guest - are they likely to allow in the second guest if I ask nicely or is the one guest rule strictly enforced?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I suspect they won't allow the second guest but no harm in asking. I did randomly guest a couple of girls in once. I guess I was impressed that they were Bolshy enough to ask:D

Well I can report, that having flown to WLG on QF and then booking a NZ flight to Hamilton that I am comfortably seated in the new NZ regional lounge and my velocity number came through on my boarding pass.

Cant comment on their guesting policy as I seldom travel with anyone But the kiwis are generally pretty accomodating in my experience .

Not sure if this is exactly the right thread, but after travelling last week my points have credited to Velocity but NO status credits.

I was booked in Y class and it appears to me it should be eligible for earn but apparently not the case anymore.

I have a few other domestic NZ trips in the past and have all earned 20 sc.

Yes I agree Serfty it should earn, it had Y in the itinerary so presume that was the bucket. Also T A made the comment when I asked him to book that it was 'about the last seat'

I now have an answer regarding guesting. Currently in the AKL domestic lounge. I was allowed one guest, and while they wouldn't allow a second complimentary guest I could purchase access for an additional guest for NZ$35.

So is there any reason to choose a VA codeshare over a direct NZ when the NZ code is cheaper, assuming it is in a points earning category?

Eligible Sectors? EG if you need your 4 for requal gold or your 8 for requal plat?
