Thought I'd run this by some of the more experienced travellers here. I'm flying Scoot to Singapore return (ecom not biz) and I decided to ask the Velocity call centre if I could still access lounges, since technically, Scoot is under the Krisflyer/Silkair umbrella.

I spoke to a local operator who thought it was a no, but she transferred me to the members dept to clarify. The members dept then said that as a Velocity Gold member flying Scoot that I would be able to access the Krisflyer lounges at both Sydney and Changi. I clarified all my booking details with her numerous times (Scoot. I'm flying Scoot. Economy Scoot. Did I mention Scoot?) and she assured me each time that I had lounge access.

Of course, she was unable to supply it in writing via email.

I'm taking my mother on this trip and would love to treat her, but would also hate to turn up to the lounge and be turned away. What do you all think?

That's what I was afraid of. Is this a common thing where the customer service will confidently give you the wrong information? I'm assuming that I can't hold them to their word...

Thanks, I had much the same reply in the other thread. Which leaves me confused as to what the Velocity membership operator was thinking.

From looking at that link, I can see that Silkair is supported. She specified I could access Krisflyer SilverKris and Gold lounge.

The only thing that I can imagine she was thinking is that since Scoot claims to be partnered with Silkair on their website, that that would be the "in" for me to enter the lounge as a Gold Velocity?

Verbal advice (50% success rate at that) vs published written policy. I know which one I'd be relying on.

Yeah, I realised after that I probably should have posted in a different forum. Apologies, I'm still learning the ropes here. Happy to collapse them both into one if that's possible

Perhaps if you have an Amex or another card with priority pass access you should have some lounge access that way

Scoot does have sort of a partnership with VA, but no mention of any benefits to Velocity members flying Scoot. And VA doesn't list Scoot as a partner at all on their website.

You can't even access the SilverKris lounge flying Y on SQ! Agent is obviously clueless.

The SIN lounges seem to play by the rules IME, and the Gold Lounge is pretty average anyway, I would not bother. SIN is a nice airport have a look around the free amenities.

Scoot, like TigerAir, is a LCC - they’re not going to pay for lounge access.

Some call centre staff are completely clueless.

The Priority Pass Lounges at SIN are not too bad.

I wouldn’t even try asking in the lounge. You’d get laughed at

Yeah, I thought it was a little too good to be true. Especially when she put me on hold so she could "check the website"...

Well, Changi itself is quite nice. I'm considering paying for a lounge.

Does anyone know if the complimentary lounge passes via a credit card can be used with any flight? Say, Velocity card with lounge access on a non Virgin flight?

I'd ask the call centre...but I've lost faith....

If you mean Virgin Lounge passes, such as those that come with the Amex Velocity Frequent Flyer card, then they can only be used in Virgin operated lounges - which means domestic lounges only, since VA don't operate any of their own international lounges. You also have to be travelling on a domestic VA flight, or on a Trans Tasman flight operated by VA or NZ.

Some Amex cards also come with lounge passes for Amex lounges, which are different - my understanding is that it doesn't matter where you are flying or with which airline in those cases, but there are not many of those lounges around.

Additionally, some credit cards entitle you to free Priority Pass membership, with a certain number of free visits to lounges (or limitless free visits in a couple of cases). There are hundreds of Priority Pass lounges around the world, including several in Changi.

Thank you! That confirms what I was thinking, and helps me with determining which card to apply for. I will probably aim for Amex instead for the extra access to their lounges. It seems you can access the Plaza Prem at Changi, according to a quick google...
