I'm looking forward to seeing no-news' photo of B717.
Maybe they will use A380 photo?

A QANTAS flight carrying about 100 mining workers from Perth has been turned back after a loud bang shook the plane.
Flight QF1820 took off from Perth Domestic Airport at about 5.40am (WST) today carrying fly in-fly out mine workers to Newman in Western Australia's Pilbara region.
A mining worker on board said the plane had just begun to level out after take-off when the captain told passengers they had experienced a problem with the left engine and would be returning to Perth.
"Shortly after take-off we did experience a bit of a bang. We heard it and felt it as well, and not long after that we dropped a little bit in altitude," Tim Williams told ABC Radio.
"We did notice a little bit of instability in the plane in the flight."
Mr Williams said the Boeing 717's take-off seemed normal.

Funny how the title refers to a loud bang, yet the witness quotes a bit of a bang.

I am surprised there has been no mention of the Rolls Royce Engines and their culpability, just like when the media blamed the A330 for everything (i.e EBJ getting struck by lightning).

Just another piece of nonews quality work, much like the John Travolta article fiasco...

We won't hear much about this with bin Laden dead.

Perhaps you prefer the SMH article then?
Engine blast grounds Qantas jet
Passenger Timothy Willigan told 6PR radio he heard a "nice big bang" shortly after the Boeing 717 took off.

A fan blade failure is suspected to be the cause of the problem

Move along people nothing to see here.
Cheers

Yes, I presume it was that one, but why does that make it favourite?

Because it's had lots of extra attention from the mechanics and seems to be my regular ride to DRW, although NXQ subbed in it's place tonight.

You could say that pretty much every aircraft has a history of incidents!

BTW AV-Herald reports it as NXE ! Incident: Qantas B712 at Perth on May 2nd 2011, engine shut down in flight
I have rechecked; my source was incorrect, it was indeed NXE!

Sorry about that, again my source checked currency, rather than history. A review shows it was indeed NXE that returned to PER!

Scheduling decided to substitute NJN at around 10:40am WST which eventually operated QF1820 and QF1821 over 8 hours late.

... it was not the same plane as we have already discussed here, and the "incidents" are hadly related to each other!

They hope to have NXE back in service tomorrow for KTA and PBO.

Well there you go, the press is not making up BS and it was NXE! Wonder what the press would make of the history of A300 VH_TAA if she was still around, in the industry she was known as being a lemon and the rego was quite apt - Try Another Airline!
