Lord Howe Island tips and tricks

Thinking that some experiences with accommodation, dining, tours, how many days to visit etc could be useful. It seems that a suggestion is to get the flights and make the accommodation booking immediately just before pressing 'pay' on the flights. Any other suggestions?

Keep an eye on Luxury Escapes.It had a good special on Capella lodge recently but it sold out quickly.

Though that is nearly half price.
Last year was a bit cheaper but I have forgotten which lodge it was.
We wii possibly do a LE stay on Lord Howe in the future.

No need to stay at CL which I don't think is in the best location at LHI....a lot of cheaper options in much better locations!

I fly to Lord Howe Island for a holiday every 1-2 years. Its just an amazing part of the world. At the moment the contract to fly there is held by Qantas Link and they have saved 2-3 Dash 8 Q200's (DHC-200) as the Q300 and Q400's are too big and heavy to land on the short runway at Lord Howe...

LHI is a magical place just off the NSW coast. Serviced by QF on a Dash 8 (one class only), the airfare is very expensive at around $1000 return for the cheapest red-e fare from Sydney or Brisbane. However, the proximity means only 16000 points (+taxes) are required for a return trip which is...

I believe it's mandatory to have a guide with you if you're climbing Mt. Gower. There are though multiple other walking tracks that are less demanding and can be done alone. E.g. the walk up to Kim's lookout (in a loop) also have beautiful views. Last time I looked, the availability is not too...

The LE offer was at Arajilla, which is a better location than Capella from what I have read.

Those threads are often about the difficulty of finding reward seats and when flights may or may not be on. It would be good to add some on the ground tips too.

Unless Capella was a similar price we would go back

I suggest reading them more closely ... as i have mentioned a few ground tips eg where we stayed and how much we paid, what food we took incl luggage allowance, what we did, how long we stayed etc etc

I did notice those yesterday kpc. I was trying to help my daughter, but as she is an 'individual', I'm not sure that she can get organised that quickly. It's a pity the LE is long gone, as a couple could / would've got the accommodation all included, the airfares and done a very nice 5 days holiday at ~ $2800 each.
