Looks Like Flyertalk has some competition.

I think the most amazing thing is that it would seem that those that bought Flyertalk did not sign Randy Petersen to a non-compete period.Unless they are silent backers of Milepoint.

Wait.......... Randy Peterson owns/founds/runs which one?????

I'm super confused

There is apparently a 3 year non-compete clause. Not sure how RP is getting around that to set up MP.

Well looks like he sold in 2007. I thought (wrongly it would seem) that it was later, and this was probably as Randy stayed on long after it was sold.

As it is Feb 2011 looks like the non-compete period is up.

What Internet Brands may not have perceived enough is that Randy Petersen is a very powerful brand in himself.

Still, non-compete periods can only be so long.

20 min later and my email still hasnt arrived.

Not sure if I,m a fan of the layout, particularly on a 1920x 1080 display. I like to use the realestate!

I signed up but I have mixed feelings about this....FT has been very good to me over the years. It will be interesting to see whether people post on both sites or there will be a significant exodus from FT...

I've signed up (and posted!) at the new site but with AFF, FT and now MP (along with FB of course ) I suspect I just won't be able to devote time to all of them.

IIRC there was also a site called travelingbetter.com, which was set up a few years back by some ex-FTers.

I suspect, despite RP having a loyal personal following, that it will be hugely diffficult task to win lots of people over from FT (as opposed to having people double-up).

I noticed that a lot of posters (even me :)) have 'status points' on MP. There will definitely be some key points of difference with the new site (why bother otherwise) but it remains to be seen exctly what they are and whether they will be sufficient to drag people from FT's comfortable bosom.

Joined up, I like the forum, very nice, also the status points thing is cool!

See here: MP and their Status' | MilePoint

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

It's a little web 2.0 but i'm sure i'll get used to it.

the 'status points' = post count from what I can see. Post = 10 points (for first post). I've posted 2 items and have 'zero' still'. so who knows:)

Will stick around, but it'll take time to grow.

Saw this a couple of days ago and will revisit but at the present no overwhelming desire to sign up.Besides AFFers are much nicer people and so helpful.;)

Same, though I did sign up to MP out of curiousity. Other than the SPG forum, I hardly look at FT these days so I doubt I'll be paying much attention to the new site. Between AFF, SQTalk and moreflyingtalk (set up by ex BA Board regulars), I think I've got all my bases covered v well!

Had a look but not that impressed,I'll stick with AFF which has the best members (and moderators/admin) of any frequent flyer site I have found.
AFF =#1 for me.
Cheers

Had a quick look, signed up. Now I am waiting for some activity before I participates, not that I participate much these days even in AFF and FT.

Couldn't agree more :)

And the plot thickens: Randy is using Xenforo (www.xenforo.com) software to power the new site. Xenforo is new forum software founded by ex-vBulletin staff who were unhappy with the direction vBulletin was taking after being purchased by Internet Brands, the same company which purchased Flyer Talk from Randy!

Ohh the politics.
I dont mind the layout, but its very FisherPrice
I did sign up though.

also I wonder if some rouge FT hacker is doing this >>>
XenForo.com is the subject of a rather large DoS attack right now. We are having the server moved behind a flood guard.

I quite like MP - love the design and the flow: it appears cleaner on the eyes than FT (which looks a bit '90s).
