Hi All,
Me, my wife and 2 kids are looking to emigrate in the next 2-3 months. We have only just started to look at the possibility of migrating to Sydney, as it would be our first choice as we have some extended family in Sydney. I am basically looking for some advice on what would be the first steps we would take to relocate from Adelaide to Sydney? Any information would be gratefully received! Also want to know what sort of funds would we need to save to be able to start the process?

Cheers Guys

Strange post (not the fact someone wants to move to Sydney, thats a complete separate subject) but your wording and the fact that you list your location as BNE which is a little bit different to Adelaide. Please be upfront with what you are trying to achieve, it will make our answers a lot more pertinent! Please also note this is a frequent flyer forum, not a place for immigration legal advice!

It's not like you need a visa :)

Although in some cases you might need to complete the requirements of an existing visa before being able to move!

You may be well served to Google "moving to Sydney" and have a look at sites dedicated to help with moving.

This looked OK as a starting point. :)

There's a visa that forces you to live in Adelaide? Wow, and I thought Christmas Island was harsh

Pretty sure that there are such visa limitations imposed when they are getting skilled people to live in the bush. I half saw a story about an engineer who went to live in western NSW somewhere. I wouldn't be surprised if he couldn't just up and move after 1 month have got an Australian visa.

Removalists would be the biggest expense in moving, so getting a quotes from a removalists would be a good start in getting an idea of the budget you require. Then of course there is the moving of the family etc.

LOL. :D

It is quite amusing when you live in Australia. SA is about the easiest place to get into if you are attempting to emigrate to Australia using the points system. Those not fortunate to get a high enough points score to live in Melbourne or Sydney can snag a visa for "low population growth" areas - SA. The visa allows employment only in that area for, from memory, a couple of years. After that you can apply for permanent residency and escape! :)
