Hi All,

Any clues on how to kill many hours at Melbourne Airport while waiting for a midnight overseas departure, if flying in from interstate for that connection ??

Any air-side hotels, or say hotels close by that might suit, etc........

With that much time I'd head into the city and have a few hours and a decent dinner there.

Because Im a boring old fart, Parkroyal across the road. Snack from the bar, long nap and a shower before flight.

i believe the 18th May 2018 +/- a day. i am actually asking for a relative. i am thinking she might be looking at more of a quiet time/place to while away the hours - maybe buy a day/half day lounge pass if possible, or a hotel close by ? i believe there are no air-side hotel in MEL ? Person used to live in MEL, so i am not sure sightseeing is on her mind ?

Dates Gold60?

Correct that there is no airside hotel. Would this be on separate tickets or one ticket? There is a pay per use Marhaba Lounge in T2 which is about $70 per 4 hours IIRC.

I'd still consider leaving the airport for a proper meal

Park Royal or holiday inn both a 5 minute walk. Have stayed at both and they're fine.

Alway much nicer to get on a long haul flight having just had a shower.

separate tickets - Virgin to MEL, then SQ from there onward. I'll certainly pass on your ideas - thanks - and to all who answer s well.............. :)

That certainly makes a difference as they'll have to wait for SQ check-in to open. Means that the Pay Lounge isn't the best idea. Parkroyal day use rooms have to be vacated at 7pm which may not be conducive to check in opening at 9pm

Park Royal can be quite flexible though so it wouldn't hurt to ask. Their in house reservations guy is pretty good with unusual situations.

The other relevant question, looking at timeframes involved is whether one can do early checkin for SQ218 when checkin for SQ 208 is still open (noting that it closes at 17:40)?

That's a good question. I don't know if they would or wouldn't allow it. I've had other airlines at MEL not let me check in until my specific flight opened.

That’s not so bad - check out 7pm, have dinner, time to check in.
