Hi, everyone I have an interest in flying. However, it tends to very much at the back of budget carriers these days. I had a mate complaining that when he gets seated at the front of Business on Emirates that he has to walk all the way to the back of the plane to use the bathroom. I was able to contrast my experience with Air Asia where I had to put the bathroom door back on its runners so that I could use the bathroom.

I lost a lot of points and Golden Wing membership when Ansett collapsed that turned me off choosing airlines for any reason other than the lowest cost and I tend to spend the savings on better accommodation as I was spoilt with a lot of free upgrades from Ansett and find any economy to be hell.

I do have a Diners Club card but it's issued from Korea as I can't bring myself to pay what Citibank wants for Diners here. I pay w50,000 a year which is less than $60 depending on the day and my wife's supplementary card is free. We only have this card for the lounge access as a few hours in a lounge between flights makes Air Asia bearable. I'm considering picking up the Samsung Card Platinum Amex on my next visit to Korea, but that card is over $800 Aussie and my wife's supplementary would be another $200. The 2% points on international purchases looks good although it is greatly diminished by the 1.4% currency conversion fee.

I started my own business planning business last month and in looking at offices Regus was offering free Dragon lounge membership, I don't know anything about this program is it any good?

I lurk here hoping to see another offer like the $440 fare that Qantas had to L.A. a while back and to see what's happening with cards as I collect them.

I look forward to meeting you all and trying to contribute.

Welcome aboard Big_fella1, where are you located?

Another welcome from me!

It never would have crossed my mind to apply for a credit card in Korea in order to save on the annual fee. Was this a difficult process?

Thanks for the welcome Mattg, JohnK, and Dr Ralph.

@Mattg I lived in Korea for 8 years and have permanent residency so I didn't get the cards to save fees but I'm keeping the cards to avoid higher fees. Korea doesn't have anti-discrimination laws so it is legal for a bank to tell me that they won't give me a mortgage because I'm foreign even though I have PR. If you have a one-year or longer Korean visa it is possible to get a credit card, although the limits are usually quite low.
