Hi to you all

I am flying to London Heathrow with SHMBO via Qantas, arriving at terminal 3.
We are then leaving on the same day, 5 hours later, from terminal 5 via BA for Munich.
These flights are not on the same ticket.
Do we need to pick up our bags and go through customs etc before going to terminal 3? Is it possible to have the bags checked through?
I know I can ask at Sydney when we leave but it is always good to have some info beforehand.

Thanks in advance
Greg

Qantas has recently stopped checking bags through to your final destination when flights are on separate PNR. So yes, unfortunately, you will have to go through immigration, collect your bags and make your way to T5 and check in for your BA flight. I think most OneWorld airlines have stopped checking bags through on separate PNR, it's the case with CX, BA, QF and AA...(but I don't know about S7;))

You'll be able to have your luggage transfered through to the final destination. We've been doing this for a few years now with no problem. Just make sure you tell them at syd airport.

EDIT:
Sorry didn't realise that it was separate pnr. In that case, you likely can't have it transfered, unfortunately.

I have a similar problem to this, which I hope I can get some help on. I have a Qantas award flight on BA from Zurich to London and then my return on QF2 on a paid ticket. Does that mean that BA can through check my luggage in Zurich? Of course, separate PNR's.

BA will not make any exception to the single PNR rule. Apparently their software is locked, so that no employee can override the new rule.

Thanks for the quick reply, defurax. I was just hopeful that I wouldn't have to go through having to exit then renter the airside. I have a few hours between flight so it's no big stress.

BA has a custom overlay to the GDS that prevents the user from through checking across PNRs. There were reports when it was added that it hadn't been communicated to staff and staff were confused that something they had been able to do earlier that day was now giving error messages.
For a time, the lockout prevented BA to BA connections. That seems to have been relaxed after complaints from everyone involved.
