I have been holding off on starting this, as I thought it was too soon, but no can't wait any longer. :) :)

We are off on the 6th September and given most of this was booked early June 2017, its been a long long wait.

Even booking that early, we struggled to get accommodation at the Giraffe Manor and ended up adding 3 nights in one of their camps in the Masai Mara in order to access some of the rooms reserved for their clients who booked other camps with them.

So this is the plan

CBR-SYD J Qantas
Syd-DXB F Emirates
quick sleep at the transit hotel in Dubai
DXB-NBO F Emirates

Giraffe Manor 2 nights

Wilson Airport to Masai Mara Safarilink

Sala's Camp 3 nights

Masai Mara to Wilson Safarilink

Wilson to Segera Retreat in the Laikipia Area Private plane

Segera Retreat 4 nights

Laikipia to Wilson Private plane

Hemingways Nairobi 1 night

NBO-KGL Y Kenyan Air

Kigali to Bisate by road transport

Bisate 6 nights

2 Gorilla Treks
1 Golden Monkey trek

Bisate to Kigali by road

Kigali Serena 1 night

Kigali to Lamai Auric Air

Singita Mara River Tented Camp 3 nights

Lamai to Singita Grumeti Air

Sabora Tented Camp 3 nights

Sasakwa 3 nights

Singita to NBO (JKIA) Coastal Air

Hemingways Nairobi 2 nights

NBO-DXB F Emirates
DXB-MEL F Emirates

Parkroyal Melbourne Airport 1 Night

MEL-CBR J Qantas

I know the fans of Mr FM's photos will want to know what he is using, so I pinned him down last night and made him tell me. I totally lost all credibility with him, when I said so these are Canons right? He doesn't seriously expect me to remember all his discourses on cameras! Its enough that I always say Yes when he asks if he can buy something new :)

Anyway so this is all NIKON gear - wont forget that in a hurry :)

Bodies

D850
D750

Lenses

80 to 400 F5.6
300 F4
24 to 120 F4
and maybe

35 F1.4

Hopefully not as I am looking at this and wondering about clothes - we are restricted to 20Kg each on light planes - total including hand luggage.....

I'm up the back near the toilets

For our charter flight out of Nairobi there was great emphasis on 20kg max or else….
I weighed by stuff endless times before flying
As we were loading I had a look at the luggage… wow .. some folks had brought two large suitcases and some had massive backpacks plus cabin bags
I decided that I was the only one who was under 20kg.
Not a word was said and I resolved never to believe the packing rules ever again.

I’ll stowaway in the hold again for this one. Except for MEL-CBR where I’ll have 1D. Don’t want to miss out on the salad offcuts on QF J.

I am extremely jealous, but looking forward to the TR.

When we were flying into Timbavati on FedAir, only soft luggage was permitted and we saw more than one group repacking into some duffels supplied by the airline.

And .... while Pushka is not using her seat, I'll have it. :p

And you couldn't hold off any longer FM. :)

yes we have seen the same, but I am one of these obsessive people who have to follow rules and some of the planes are really small, so it could be an issue. The plane to and from Segera is a 2 seater plus pilot, so I don’t think there will be much room.

Was thinking too ... must be good to have a partner who's into photography. Usually it's me lugging everything and looking at everything through a lens. No pressure on you to get the right pic, I assume?

Or do you have to help lug everything? :D

its wonderful. :). Nope he carries everything, although occasionally I have carried his tripod when he takes one. I can just enjoy myself looking at things and I place orders - “can I have xyz for my trip report please”. He pretends that he doesn’t care about my trip reports, but he actually likes seeing his photos in them. :).

Good for you! And this is one trip where his skills will be especially appreciated ... by all of us!
