Hoping the AFF collective knowledge might know if this has been done previously...

1. Mrs and Jr 11sjw booked on JQ (*class) with my QFF Pts SYD-HNL return;
2. Mrs and Jr booked QF Dom Classic Y with Mrs 11sjw's points PER-SYD return;

Due to uncertainty re leave approval and lack of points I had to hold off my booking and once ok'd I've booked as follows:

1. ASA Y seat to SYD same flight as Mrs and Jr;
2. Cash SYD-HNL return, again same flight. (Status run ex HNL planned!)

I've been able to get the JQ bookings linked in order to have Mrs and Jr placed in the seats next to me (grabbed 2D thanks to serfty's JQ review from a while ago).

I've had a QF call centre staff member tell me they can't link the QF Domestic and the JQ Intl flights as they weren't completed on the same booking. Means we'll have to recheck bags at Sydney both ways. We've got 6 hrs over and 4 back between flights so we should be ok. However I'd like to avoid the rechecking if possible.

Has anyone had any experience of this QF Domestic-JQ Intl link of separate bookings being allowed?

I'm QFF Gold, not that it seemed to help here.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I have been in the same situation a couple of times going Mel -syd on qantas domestic and then Jetstar *class SYD to HNL.
From my exprience and research you will have to pick up your bags from qantas domestic and recheck in at Jetstar. :(

Maybe check the thread about getting an early JQ boarding pass. I'm sure someone provided a link to a table that showed interlining was possible QFd to JQi was allowed. Having said that I know someone who had hassles.

I've had a a look on the QF website and can't find said table....

I do it quite often by calling the WP desk and asking that it be NOTED on the QFd booking the desired connection / interline to the JQi flight. While they can't do it officially on the QFd booking, as it is not on the same booking, they can make a NOTE on the QFd booking about the interline request to the JQi flight. Then when you do the manual / NOT NGCI check-in at the domestic check-in, tell them about the NOTE on the QFd booking, smile and ask nicely and they will then interline the bags for you to the JQi flight.

This really is a crock as QF owns both airlines and the non interlining can only exist to make QF paxs not want to book with JQ. There is no technical reason they can't interline bags between QF and JQ as I personally do it on every trip OS. As I said, just more QF BS.

I don't have access to the WP desk. Might try QFF again next week and the smile nicely at check in option.

I know Straitman has had a separate pnr MEL/SYD/MEL on QF & a separate pnr SYD/HNL/SYD on JQ which still enabled to to have his bags through checked MEL/HNL as well as received both boarding passes.

Putting a note in a pnr doesn't really do much as that in itself doesn't facilitate the checkin to the final destination. What matters is that at checkin you tell the agent that you want your bags checked through to xx_ so they can use the "add itinerary" function to add the JQ flight into Altea then check you in after that.

Not sure what your date of travel is but that issue is probably the least of your worries at the moment. :shock:

Be sure to bring the JQi booking. With that and a nice smile, the humans at the non NGCI manual check-in should do the right thing and interline your bags. You will still need to do check-in for the JQi flight with JQ in the international terminal as QF can't issue you the JQi boarding pass. That is what they will tell you. If you are really nice and they are in a good mood, you can ask for the JQi BP that will print with your QFd PB. They have been told to tear it up. But you may get lucky.

Thanks for the replies. Seems like a nice smile (perhaps Ms 5yr old can give her girly thank you and win a heart or two at the Business Check in) and a friendly request will do wonders.

It depends sometimes you get both the QF & JQ boarding passes & sometimes you only get the QF one, however bags can still be through checked to final destination regardless then all you need to do is get the boarding pass from JQ at the international gateway city.

I think that you are optimistic. Jetstar does not not even link their flights. You have to recheck in at every stop. I flew star class max from coolongatta to Singapore vvia Tullamarine as this is the only way Jetstar flies. I had to collect my luggage in Melbourne and recheck in for flight to Singapore. On the way back I landed in Tullamarine at 0645 hors and had collect my luggage at Tullamarine airport and recheck in for flight to coolongatta. Unfortunately my flight was at 1200 hours and i cpuld not check in until 1000hours. So I had to wait in quede and then the luggage system broke down and I finally got to check in at 1130 hours preventing me from using the lounge. I am Platinum and I feel I was treated worse that a bronze frequent flyer. Why they could not check the luggage to the final destination escapes me. So if they will not link a JQ flight to a JQ flight I cvannot see how they wii link a QF flight to a JQ flight. I never felt so nauseated at my treatment. Maybe Virgin may link their flight to one of the other International carriers.

When the changes originally came into play (3rd Nov 2010) the wording was included in the FAQs as part of the explanation.

Q11 of the Q&A was:
Q: Can you through check from Jetstar to Qantas?
A: The Policy with regard to customer through check and baggage interline between Qantas and Jetstar services remains unchanged from that applicable today, irrespective of two separate PNRs.

ConnectionsThrough check / Baggage Interline provided
Between QFI and JQIYes
Between QFI and AU JQDNo
Between QFD and AU JQDNo
Between QFD and JQIYes
Between QFI and NZ JQDBoth provided at AKL when departing from NZ.
Neither provided inbound to NZ
Between QFI and 3K (SIN, BKK & HKG)Yes
Between QFI and VF (SIN)Yes
Between JQI and AAI, JLI, & RJI (Also CX, AY, MA, LA from end Oct 2010) Baggage Interline only

Not sure when or if that has changed as it does seem different to the link provided in post #5.

I think it depends where ie what city the transfer takes place. I was told by JQ in BNE that they don't do JQ dom to JQi transfers at CNS/SYD or MEL due to the fact there is nobody to physically transfer the bag to the international terminal.

You could do BNE QF CNS JQ NRT no worries but not BNE or OOL JQ CNS JQ NRT.

You could do BNE QF MEL JQ SIN but not BNE JQ MEL JQ SIN however I've had issues with not being able to do it from QF in BNE not because they didn't want to but there was some kind of response from the JQ system that inhibited through checkin.
