Hi Everyone,
My family and I are going to head over to Europe to enjoy summer (again!) and my Mum is particularly keen to fly Premium Economy.
She has enough FF points to upgrade all three of us to PE (and is silver status) but I've never applied for an upgrade before so I'm really unsure of the likelihood.

Rough dates we are looking at:
SYD > LHR on 8th August (2 of us), myself on the 16th
LHR > DXB 1st Sept
DXB > SYD 5th Sept

Really appreciate any help you can provide! I know you guys are pros at this system :)

Thanks,

Michael

Here is part of the equation:

QF1 for 8/8 shows the following: F5 A4 J9 C9 D9 I9 W9 R7 T4 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O8 G0 X9 E0

So 9 or more seats in PE (W) at this stage.

Upgrades are becoming (in my experience) harder to achieve - as your mother is silver she will be quite down the list when it comes to allocating any upgrades (the higher tiers will be actioned first). Given the pricing of PE many people are choosing to pay to fly this class rather than J so by August there may be no seats for upgrade, certainly not three. We have started to fly PE more than J now on international flights as it is quite a good compromise.

In a similar vein... could any SG members out there advise how their strike rate in obtaining upgrades to F (from J of course) in the past year or so. Trying to ascertain how likely I am to get such an upgrade SY-LHR next year. Thanks all.

my Mum is particularly keen to fly Premium Economy.

She will have a better chance requesting an upgrade for 1 person than she will requesting an upgrade for 3 people. However if you are all in the same booking she might not be able to limit the upgrade request to herself only.

Premium Economy has the least available seats of any class except F and the chances of 3 seats being available for an upgrade requested by a PS are very slim in my opinion. (Remember that seats available for sale are not necessarily the same as seats available for upgrades).

If she can afford it then I suggest your Mum books herself into Premium Economy with money, and then she can request a points upgrade for any other family members who are booked in Y.
