I just saw that I received 60 bonus SC for various flights in Feb/Mar. I have a couple of silly questions:

How did I manage that?

And if they don't have the ~ next to them, do they count towards attaining status?

Don't know how you did that. They might be reversed.

Yes and no. If you need sectors then they don't count as a sector. Otherwise, of course they count towards status total.

Not exactly. They will count if you have 4~ already.

Are you sure? (Note how I'm hedging my bets :) ) This is the explanation given for the symbol:

Eligible flight (Qantas, QantasLink or Jetstar segment) counted towards status attain/retain.

My reading of that has always been that no ~, then it doesn't count at all towards status attain/retain.

Yes, I'm sure. You need two things for status attain/retain. 1) the relevant status credits, and 2) 4 eligible flights. The ~ marks that as being an eligible flight in satisfaction of the second qualification requirement. The status credits will always count to towards the SC total regardless of a ~ or not.

My 50% bonus status credits have been coming in without a ~. But they are included in my status credit total and loyalty bonus total. and I have 4 paper planes (Well that didn't copy and paste very well):

4/4
QANTAS
SEGMENTS
FLOWN

You must fly a minimum of four eligible flight segments on Qantas, QantasLink and Jetstar and earn the required Status Credits to keep/reach your tier during your membership year.

The ~ signifies flights which count toward status attain/retention. All SCs count toward attain/retention. The two are mutually exclusive inasmuch that you need BOTH the number of SCs AND the number of required flights to attain/retain.

As far as I've seen to date, bonus SCs *never* get the ~ since the ~ was earned on the original flight if applicable (you've not flown an additional flight therefore the bonus is not counted as an additional flight).

Hope this helps.

BD

All my pre-March earning adjustments came in with a ~. Only just noticed that in checking things to reply to this thread.

OK, :) sorry to mis-lead the OP.

Don't be hard on yourself. ;) It depends, without 4 other ~ then those SC won't count.

My last bonus SC came in January last year so I can't look them up.

The invitational email makes no distinction (I'm talking about the targetted Double SC offers QF used to issue), just refers back to the T&Cs, the link for which is no longer valid.

The standard T&Cs state:

20.1.5
The travel required in each Membership Year to attain or retain Silver, Gold, Platinum and Platinum One status levels must include a minimum of four Eligible Flight Segments where Qantas, QantasLink or a Jetstar Airline is the Marketing Carrier.

To my mind it makes no sense that a bonus SC be flagged as an eligible flight segment: it isn't a flight segment, it's a bonus SC line entry!!

I certainly don't recall seeing the squiggle but TBH I've never struggled to get 4 segments on my weekly interstate commutes!! If someone is benefiting from receiving a bonus SC offer despite the fact they wouldn't normally fly the 4~ required ... then good luck to them!!

I'm just reported what I've experienced. This relates to earning adjustments to the old earning (pre-March 2014) not bonus SC. As I posted already my bonus SC don't have a ~

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The squiggle shows that it is a QF or JQ marketed (non-reward) flight. Flights on BA, CX, JL, AA etc will post some status credits but have no squiggle.
Means that you can't qualify for status without giving Qantas some $$

Thanks everyone.

I originally thought that without the squiggle they wouldn't count towards my tally of SC. But they do count to my total, since they've said that you have now earned 520SC and need 680SC to retain...

Interestingly, they also counted to my loyalty bonus! So thanks Qantas!

I assume the squiggle is about the 4 flight segment limit as Medhead suggested.

But I still don't know how I managed to accrue them - maybe I had an offer. I don't know! I hope it keeps working for a while! ;)

Artemis, when did you make the booking, prior to Mar 14?
If so, the extra were make up for bookings made before Fairer and Simpler changes came in in Jul 14.
I easily attained Gold, due to a lot of bookings made prior to Mar 14, to fly up to now.
Now that Fairer and Simpler have come into effect, I would probably drop to PS soon, and then NB after that.
What you need to do is read the narration.
Adjusted earn for miles and SC, is on a lot of my past QFs flights (on activity statement).

No the bookings were made Feb 2015 for travel on 28 Feb 15 and in March 15... I wish I could book my travel that far in advance! But it's generally within 48hrs of travel (including international flights!).

I can only assume I received some bonus SC offer that I registered for and can't remember. But I can't think why I'd receive an SC bonus offer so early in my year (I'm 3 months in.)

Flew recently MEL-BNE in economy.

Flight posted as normal 15 SC's with ~ .

A day or two layer the bonus 7 SC's posted for the flight but no ~ .

That is perfectly fine ... I now have 22 SC's and a ~ for the one flight.

This I believe this is the same type of situation for the OP.

(FWIW I had forgotten about the 50%
bonus offer as normally I book so far in advance that I can rarely use them. This flight was different in being only booked a couple of months beforehand.)
