Hi All, This is my first thread so go easy on me... I have picked up so many tips over the past month...

Q, I an currently a Silver VA with 400SC points. With my pending travel plans next month, I will just straight past SG to WP... YEH
Do I miss out on the "Gold member guaranteed 4 return domestic flights?. I want to fly Abu Dabi next year and don't want to burn the 4 guaranteed seats if I only get them once. Any tips would be much appreciated.

Guaranteed Economy Reward Seats for an annual family trip

  • Gold members are guaranteed four return economy Reward Seats to
  • any destination around Australia when flying with Virgin Australia.
  • Platinum members are guaranteed four return economy Reward Seats to any domestic or international
  • destination when flying with Virgin Australia or our international airline redemption partners.

The same benefit is available for Platinum:
Guaranteed Economy Reward Seats for an annual family trip to any international destination
  • Platinum members are guaranteed four economy return Reward Seats to any domestic or international destination when flying with Virgin Australia or our international airline redemption partners.
  • Reward Seats can be redeemed using Points or Points plus Pay (minimum Points redemption applies).
  • Reward Seats must be booked at least 6 months prior to your journey and are only available for one flight booking per year .
  • Reward Seats can be booked online. If you cannot find Reward Seats online, please contact the Membership Contact Centre.

Looks like the OP wants to use eight flights in total.

Someone will know and answer soon, however best not to post in two threads.

Hi there, Thanks for that Sojourner. I am still a little confused...

Would I be entitled to 4 return domestic under Gold. (for the fleeting moment I would be gold)
And 4 return International economy under Platinum in the same year??

Thanks

Welcome Mark.

The guaranteed reward seats are only valid on domestic trips - you would be able to use them to fly through to AUH.

Hi Dreamweaver,

How I see it is:

Gold has 4 domestic return family seats. (say family trip BRIS to SYD)

Just confirming as a WP and its guaranteed family trip for 4 'International' , can it be used for AUH?

My big Q, is I will jump straight from Silver to Platinum and miss out of GOLD's 4 guaranteed family tickets.

I am thinking along the lines that I get 4 domestic return (Gold) and 4 domestic/International Platinum) so total 8 return tickers all in the same year.

Sorry if I am confusing you...

Maybe another way of saying it is, do VA recognise that you were Gold for a moment, and honour the family ticket offer even though I moved straight to WP.

Cheers and thanks

You understand that these are guaranteed reward tickets - they're not free flights?

Yes, I know that.. I'm more concerned about the guaranteed 4 seats at dates I wish to travel... and where.
for example, I wish to do Bris-Mel-Bris in June. 4pax and then in September 14th Bris-AUH-Bris 4pax. Have I used
up more than I am entitled too?
The Bris-Mel was 'Under gold'
The Bris-AUH under 'Platinum'

Maybe I am thinking too hard on this... thanks again..

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I would start your search in the T&C's: Terms & Conditions | Velocity Frequent Flyer

From that brief reading I'd say you need to get on the phone when you think you're Gold and get the booking sorted, before you hit Platinum. However I've read many a thread about the wait period when your status changes on VA so I'm not sure how you'll manage other than to find a nice phone operator or contact someone at VA.

Thanks samh004,

I will do that.. Hopefully there is a little window of opportunity when the Gold paperwork turns up... I have my dates ready.. then when Platinum
turns up I will check with VA over the phone that I am OK with the Int offer.

Do you know if the guaranteed Int flight can be claimed to AUH? or do VA really mean NZ as there Int for this WP offer?

It reads that it's a true international offering:

17.3.1 VRPL guarantees that Platinum Members can make one booking for up to four guests on:

(a) Virgin Australia domestic Economy Reward Class return flights; or

(b) Economy Reward Class return flights departing from Australia [-](or from New Zealand if the Platinum Member is a New Zealand based Member)[/-] to any international destination to which the Virgin Australia or an Airline Partner flies;

in each Total Benefit Period (Platinum Guaranteed Reward Seats for an Annual Family Trip).

samh has the right idea. As soon as you hit Gold give them a call and book your MEL trip then once you tick over to WP call and book the AUH trip. As WP you will be able to take the family into the F lounge in AUH which is fantastic! Hope you manage to work things out, good luck.

Thank you both for your help...
I just hope they send me the Gold paperwork so I can do this... Does anyone know if they bypass sending gold paperwork when you go to WP straight from Silver...
If they send both I am good to go...

Cheers and thanks again.

PS: looking forward to the AUH lounge...

Don't wait for the Gold stuff to come in the mail (it can take anything from a week to a month to arrive) - login to your VFF account every morning after your qualifying flights have been flown to check your status.

Has anyone ever used the benefit? I have always wondered if you get the guaranteed flights at the same redemption rate normal tickets go for. So say you see there is availability for 2 people at 30,000 points each way, and you needed this for 2 more people as well, 4 in total, does the guarantee offer the reward seats at the same price? I assume you possibly would.
