I wasnt sure what I would feel about this hotel. Some good reviews on FT,mixed reviews om TA.However I was blown away.On arrival we were immediately given a welcoming drink-ginger + lemongrass, very refreshing.Within a couple of minutes the GM came and had a chat with us that ended up lasting 30 minutes with tips on what to do,usual prices for things such as transport, restaurants with the fewest reports of explosive problems, even to the best place for provisions to beat mini bar pricing.During this chat we mentioned that our wedding anniversary was during this stay.
We were upgraded to a suite even though on a Z3R rate meaning an effective daily rate of $US103.Free snack every afternoon. On the day of our anniversary virtually every staff member congratulated us.When we arrived back that night there was a heart shaped anniversary cake.
Staff were friendly and mostly efficient.Their Angkor Royal Cafe was fantastic.3 course lunch$US12,dinner $US15.And the food was of very good quality, well presented and large portions. Our only regret was that we didnt have all meals there!

A thoroughly reccomended place to stay in Siem Reap.

Drron you prompted me to check some old details. Stayed at Sofitel in 2004 & thoroughly enjoyed Cambodia. Such resilient people

I stayed there in 2007 with my parents. We weren't too happy with the service really, and points never credited to SPG. We did get the welcome drink though, and did like the facilities.

Some great places to eat in town too.

Ate their in 2007. Very good meal. Service, food - everything. Impressive wine list too.

Pool looked fantastic!

We were in Siem Reap during Christmas and we had a fantastic time. It was the best part of our trip around South East asia and a big part of it was due to the awesome experience we had at the Golden Banana Resort. Probably very different experience from Le Meridien since this is a small boutique hotel. It was like staying with friends. The food and the coughtails were awesome...mmm those coughtails!!!

I forgot to mention that the folks at the Golden Banana also work like a personal travel agent and they work with the best drivers and guides in town. The best part is that they charge same prices you can get by negotiating directly with the guides / drivers on the street, maybe a dollar or two more. Also, they don't pay them until you get back to the hotel and confirm that you had an awesome experience.
