Hi all, I'm after some confirmation and/ or advice around long layover and lounge access in LAX.
I'm QF Platinum and I have a trip (with wife & 2 kids) to Calgary booked in Jan 19. Booked via Qantas so travelling Sydney to LA on QF11. This flight arrives into LA, terminal B at 6am. Our connecting flight has a QF flight number (QF3349) but is on Westjet at 13:00 from Terminal 2. We have a 7 hour transit.
Wondering if we can stay in the international terminal and use the QF first lounge? I had some queries around whether we could use the lounge at all given the flight is on Westjet however reading the terms I think we can as the flight has a QF flight number?

Thanks.

You can use the Qantas First lounge.

Lounge Locations | North America | Los Angeles International Airport Tom Bradley Terminal | International First

Eligibility and access | Qantas - Children

Eligible Qantas Members
...
Platinum Frequent Flyer

Next onward flight must be on a Qantas^, Jetstar+ or oneworld operated and marketed flight#.

One guest is allowed who must be travelling with the member on the same flight.
There is confusion with this - it would be better written as:

Next onward flight must be on a
  • Qantas^ marketed flight or
  • Jetstar+ or
  • oneworld operated and marketed flight#.

I'd suggest taking a print-out of the eligibility pages serfty linked to, for the benefit of any Lounge guardians who may not know the rules (as in guesting children etc).

However, there is no airside connection between TBIT and T1, 2 and 3. In order to use the QF lounges before a flight from T2, you would need to clear TSA before using the lounge, then leave the air side, walk to T2 and reclear TSA before the flight.

There is a bus airside from TBIT to t2/t3.

So after QF11, do immigration / customs, head up the ramp to the right, redeposit bags at the top, then head right, all they way down to transit security. After that, go up to the t4/tbit connector and turn right. Stay at that level, head along and you turn a corner to find yourself at the entrance to the Qantas first lounge.

No later than 75 minutes before your scheduled departure from t2 leave the First lounge and go to the far north end of TBIT where you can catch the airside bus to T2.

Awesome advice - thank you.

My last arrival onto QF11, the transit security area near the luggage re-check at wasn't open except for employees. They made us go out to the main entrance to TBIT and then upstairs to clear security there. Not sure if this is a regular occurrence. But it won't really affect you here as the QF lounge is not far from the TBIT security area anyway.
