[NEWSMAKER] Korean Air on hot seat over air rage incident

All female crew unable to subdue and restrain male passenger who has been unruly on other Korean Air flights
Male passengers + off duty Male korean Air engineer had to come to the rescue
Said passenger is apparently still not banned from the airline with his next flight on KA he will be monitored

90% KA cabin crew are female
Would not be surprised that cabin crew are generally appointed based on appearance.

Asian female cabin crew tend to be softly spoken, demure, and have uniforms that really do not help in a security situation

Now KA are relaxing the conditions in which Tasers can be used

I fear the KA cabin crew will not be able to aim properly.

OK... I kind of understand the implied feeling that the cabin/flight crew should be able to handle...whatever...

BUT.... as a man who feels we are ALL part of "society"...(even the temporary society of a flight) I would..personally have no hesitation in helping out in such a situation....and would certainly NOT feel it was "someone elses job"... exactly the same as if I saw a similar incident on a street here where I live... (and no.. its not JUST the job of the Police to look after other people!)

Whats the difference?

The issue is not with the passengers wanting or happy to assist.
The criticism is of the airline and the inability of cabin crew to subdue and restrain ONE unruly passenger who was known to the same airline for similar behaviour in the past. Airlines and cabin crew often reiterate that cabin crew are there for the safety of the cabin but in this case they could not control one passenger without passenger assistance.

True, no cabin crew can completely control the cabin

Now they can use their Tasers and have been trained in using a Taser but I think some innocent pasenger may get Tased.

Getting training is different to shooting a Taser in real life. The cabin crew was "trained" in restraints and dealing with unruly passengers, but it did not work out in reality.

I think airlines (?some) need to rethink cabin security and wonder if such current training is "nominal"

If I saw someone like that piece of cr..p spitting continuously in a staff members face I would hit him in the face so hard it could pop a window out.

What a disgusting fellow.

OK... agree to disagree then... because I feel the willingness of pax to assist in such situations SHOULD be a part of the normal response... YMMV

I'm only 1 step behind you trooper if you need a hand - some things just require certain responses. I see no reason whatsoever that airlins need to hire Sumo wrestlers because some jerk off does not understand how to behave in a civilised manner

Ah yes KE!. Thx.

Airlines don't need to hire sumo wrestlers but the cabin crew should be trained to a certain level re cabin security and handling of unruly passengers. Other airlines do it well without Sumo. The airline needs to follow the practice of other airlines of banning such passengers. Hiring cabin crew based on skills rather than appearance.Sure appearance can be deceiving - who knows the quietly spoken 50kg demure female cabin crew may in fact be a black belt martial arts exponent but I seriously doubt it -and none on that KE flight either.
Sure as a passenger help where you can but watch out you may inadvertently get Tased while doing so on KE.
