Kissing goodbye to EXP (how to get a status match and SWUs to give away)

Due to the cancellation of my annual US trip last year I have no AA ~ and therefore fully expect to go from EXP to zero in 6 weeks. So as I deal with my grief of this coupled with the impending devaluation, partially offset by the reintroduction of PLT challenge, I am thinking:

1. Status match - Anything live at the moment which would be useful? CX is my main carrier for work (J) so I'd probably still credit that to AA, but I take AY/BA for leisure (Y/Y+) and status would be nice there (but if I am to move away from Oneworld altogether Velocity would be my second best option based on my redemption needs and the fact that I can family pool when we travel together).

2. SWUs - I still have 8, and looks like I will still have 8 at the end of Feb (will know for sure in about a week). So if anyone wants an upgrade for an AA flight(s) in late Jan or all of Feb I'd be happy to see what I can do (within reason, don't hold it against me if I can't, I have sole discretion who I apply for blah blah blah).

Thanks.

1. AS may potentially match you if you can demonstrate that you fly sufficiently in the US. But my SO and I have been both rejected based on the fact that we don't reside within their network aka NW of the US. BA credits to AS poorly unless you're flying in Y+ or J. AY is out of the question. If you have any AY flights in the first half of the year, I would still credit them to AA given that they'll still dish out 100% earn rates for RDM (plus your EXP bonus). Even though the chart would have been devaluated by March, I still think its a better place to credit AY flights than other OW partners. Do you really need OW status if you're flying CX J for work (and that provides you lounge access)?

Traveling with a family makes Velocity more attractive. And if you're heading to Europe, you can book SQs cheap flexi tickets for those extra SCs which make earning status a breeze (if you fly enough, you may even get around children counting towards your guests by getting your SO VA SG).

2. I have three SYD-DCA r/t flights coming up in late Jan and early-mid Feb. There isn't any upgrade availability yet but given AA's record of releasing seats 2-6 weeks out, I'm hopeful. I'm happy to take whatever you can spare as it would sure make my MR a bit more comfortable ;).

Status for extra miles on work flights, status for lounge & extra miles on leisure. Having been AA PLT/EXP for about 5 years now I can't imagine taking a longhaul flight without earning double miles, but maybe that's the new reality.

I feel ya. Even if you fly enough to maintain status for PLT/EXP, by the second half of the year none of the big three within the US will be offering 1 RDM per mile flown on their own metal. We don't know the exact details of AAs RDM scheme (% of flight distance and fare class) for partners but seeing the cuts to BA I wouldn't expect good news if you're flying in Y.

The only place that you'll be earning double miles by the end of this year is with AS. VA SG/WP would get you lounge access on the various carriers that you might be traveling on and booking VA coded flights would allow you to earn 75%/100% on VA and 50% on EY. And! VA has some acceptable awards to the US on their metal and if nothing draws your attention then you can always transfer VA miles to KF for some SQ suite awards :)
