Just Now EK start to charge fee for Seat Selection

Hi

Just find today, the EK start charge fee in select seat.
Why?
Any way to avoid it

If you’re an Emirates Skywards Silver member, you'll be exempt from Advanced Seat Reservation charges. However, anyone else in your booking will have to pay to reserve their seats in advance.
If you're an Emirates Skywards Blue member, you will have to pay to reserve your seats in advance, as will anyone else in your booking who isn’t exempt for another reason.
There are no exemptions for Emirates Business Rewards members.
 
I just changed a seat reservation on some upcoming bookings with EK through the EK website (QF Codeshare) and as a QFF Gold noticed it said 'complimentary' after changing the seats, so its good to know the system recognises the status.
 
Also, it's only payable for bookings made from 3 October. Anything booked before then you can still do seat selection for free even if you don't have status or pay a minimum flex fare.
 
Emirates could have handled this better, yes they get a sudden extra fees but Emirates could have said for the first few months if you join Emirates; then you can get your seat selection complimentary.
 
They did similar by dropping checkin baggage limit in cheap economy from 30 to 20kgs. Booked Before 20 June you get 30kg on or after 20 June it's now 20kg.
 
Just booked F redemption today, via QF website using QF points - no charge for seat allocation when chosen on Emirates website

Another data point for QF Gold - EK code, EK operated, booked through EK website, was able to change seats for free. Interestingly, I had been booted out of my previous seat selection, had been reassigned for some reason to H seats, I always choose the G seat irrespective of airline (or whatever the centre bank of 3 or 4 seats, right hand aisle seat is), so definitely was moved between originally selecting seats and now.

Knew that I'd need to select seats of the EK website for the EK-metal, so went there and found it wanted to charge me $35 per seat... unsure of what my next move is, considering I do have status and would like to select my seats!

Have you tried Qantas premium desk? They have been able to select seats for me in the past and the seat selection has stuck.
 
EK website does not charge me to select seats.

Given you are WP are you sure your FF number is properly inserted?
 
Do they charge for seat selection on QFF award redemptions in J or F?

I did a test - I see complimentary

My number is in the booking, but I'm thinking it may not be entered correctly? In fact... I think I know what has gone wrong, and it's all QF's fault so I shall definitely be phoning them tomorrow to let them fix the mess. TL;DR it is likely due to certain security measures put on my account after I was hacked a year or so ago!
