At least QF got them all lounge access and hotels. Somehow JQ's promise of "get your own hotel and claim reimbursement later" doesn't fill me with hope they are going to be as well looked after.

Ummm...

Quote from the news article:

The Jetstar spokeswoman... said all affected customers were provided two nights’ accommodation, meal allowances for both days, transport to and from hotels, as well as $100 travel vouchers.

"Customers who no longer wished to travel were also offered a cash refund for their entire journey," she said.

We are talking "One Star" here and experience shows you get what you pay for.

The official statement does appear to vary significantly from the passenger experience.

Also a quote from the news article:

Another passenger said her family was advised "to organise our own hotel and seek reimbursement".

And:

Then they were squeezed into buses and travelled about an hour to a hotel – only to discover not everyone could get a room.

I believe the passengers.

How are those ACCC fines going Jetstar?

Mind you I’ve been ‘stranded’ in my hometown of SYD by QFi when planes went tech and they couldn’t find replacements ‘come back tomorrow’ LOL

Very bad luck. And not much available in terms of alternative routings, as most flights from SE Asia to Australia are chock full at the moment (you know when day in day out Scoot and Air Asia are charging $800-900 for one way flight from SIN/KUL-MEL things are busy)..

Also in these circumstances wouldn’t necessarily be a bad idea (if you had the financial means) to skip the queues and find your own hotel + transport and seek reimbursement later ..... a worse thing would be to say that you must take the accommodation we organise or no reimbursement. Just need to outline parameters so people don’t go off spending $300 on a hotel and being surprised that it’s not being fully reimbursed.

I was booked JQ MEL-SIN-BKK Boxing Day morning only have the Jetstar text me at nearly 11pm Christmas day to say the flight to SIN had been delayed... by 21 hours! Surely that's a cancellation in the real world. After nearly an hour on the phone then only option they could come up with for me to make to BKK the next day (now almost same day) was to cancel the booking and find a new airline... I had to do that in the end, Merry Christmas Jetstar! I did somehow get PR Premium Economy for the same price as Jetstar economy, so not all bad... but certainly not good!

I've had 5-6 cancellations over the past 18 months, and this was the last straw! The lounge, points and status credits (when applicable) aren't worth it for the stress associated with constant cancellations.

Thanks for the data point.

I was wondering if they would accommodate passengers on the QF A380 (to SIN) that leaves almost the same time. But apparently not? Or unless the QF flight was full due to the time of year?

I think it was a lot about the time of the year, but they wouldn't confirm on the phone if any of the QF flights had seats, they just kept repeating they have no way to get me there...

You are a better man than me, Gunga Din, to persevere for so long! (5-6 cancellations over 18 months.)

I travel almost constantly, so the chance for a direct flight, or a flight with a decent points/SC earn meant that I used JQ a bit. Twice cancelled on the direct flight out of DPS... Both times at least I got the QF to SYD, then onto MEL.

They say once bitten, twice shy... well I'm now so far beyond shy! :)

Seems nothing changes. I learned my lesson a few years ago when I was stranded by Jetstar in Tweed heads after they randomly decided to cancel a flight claiming it was because of weather but every other flight took off. Then claimed that no alternate flight was available for 2 more days. No compensation. No assistance in finding accommodation. Happened at 9pm in an area that I wasn't familiar with the day before Mrs DrRalph was due back at work. I'll never fly Jetstar again and think that anyone else that chooses to should accept what they get given the airlines reputation and history..

I've been thinking about booking JQ medium-long haul to save points/money but all these stories are not very reassuring.

Have been on my banned list for years now both domestically and Internationally after being burnt several times.
