JQ should get the 767's.

One thing I really can't stomach is that the low cost brand (JQ) is schduled to get the first 787's (and are currently flying Qantas' A330's which could easily be brought up to the new A330 standards) while the "prestige" brand (QF) are flying old, tired 767's with tired interiors and overhead 3-colour projector screens and charging a premium for their flights.

IMO Qantas Mainline should not be flying less comfortable aircraft than their low cost brand.

This is clearly showing where the Qantas brand is heading. New 787s for JQ, cutting QF cabin crew, poor QF international performance, militant unions. All signs point towards JQ becoming the "main airline" and QF reserved for long haul flying only.

JQ is more profitable than QF, management know that and will exploit it.

I'm not fussed really, now that Virgin Australia are on the scene.

Can you run a low cost carrier with those old clapped out gas guzzling 767's :cool::D

Q should be getting the new 787's, I've been on a few of the very old, worn out unattractive 767's in past days, bloody awful. Also, looked at a SYD/HNL/SYD in J on 767, no way I'll be paying $10 + grand for that!, wish Q would wake up to what the market needs and wants.

Precisely!

But I suspect people would pay Star Class prices for a J seat on a 763 in JQ brand!

Maybe the book "The men who killed Qantas" will need updating?

Yep should be a big seller :)

The mighty "Star Class" now business (cough) went from $2.7K in J to 4K in one swoop, must be new planes coming (not).

Definately speaks volumes for Qantas management's vision for the future, handicapping QF with outdated equipment like B734's and B763 and rolling out new B787, A320 and A330 aircraft for JQ will only exagerate the profit margins between JQ and QF and assist in the justification for running down the QF brand.

The only logical conclusion I can reach is that if - as i predict, that QF is shut down in the future, then would be interesting to see how VA is able to compete with JQ solely. I am guessing that Tiger is still hurting JQ to some extent if people really are using Tiger fares to beat JQ fares down price matching.

After numerous packed B737 QF flights I don't mind the B767 actually! I think they're fun and they break the monotony.

I agree with this thread heading.

Last week, I returned from Sydney to Perth and had paid a higher fare to travel on the A330 with AVOD.

Plane was changed 48 hours before departure and downgraded to a 767.

No apology email from QF nor did they acknowledge my complaint lodged on line via the QF web site.

My single on going complaint about QF is the inconsistency of the product delivered to the passenger.

The same could be said about the main competitor. The only real consistent products are the two LCC in TT and JQ.

*As an aside,I may be wrong, but the patterns I have seen with prices domestically is that scheduling plays a bigger part in determining the price then the actual a/c itself.

I dont like QF, but I love the 767. Maybe a bit old, but they are comfortable, (Especially like the ex BA units with 1/2/2 seating..... Too bad I fly Virgin now, no more 767 for me

Wow... All your posts seem to have a common theme... Mmm.... Ahem...

But anyway I'd take a 763 over any 737 flying in Oz today :)

Yes, I admit I was a bit Qantas heavy today!

Would you prefer a 763 over a A332 with AVOD and the newer interior though?

They are not the ex-BA birds which are solely domestic, the 1-2-2 are the international GE powered birds

You have to remember that the only reason the 767's are still around is due to the 787 delays. It has played havoc with their fleet retirement. Also the 734's are being retired, and new IFE's going into the 738's.

The QF fleet renewal (or lack of) has always been of interesting discussion. So many what could have beens (i.e more A330's earlier, 777 etc etc)

I stand corrected, regardless, wherever they came from, the 1/2/2 seating is the best on a 767

That's a bit rough! I was in the same situation in January on an international route (scheduled 333 changed to 763); I complained and received quite a nice little sweetener in compensation. This was on an overnight flight though..

As the flight was Int that is quite a downgrade however I am sure QF do not view it the same domestically. The number of equipment changes domestically is much higher than internationally from my experience.

I have been booked in J on a A333 SYD-PER and had it subbed for a 767 and received nothing, that is a massive change for me as it goes from beds to seats.

I agree with you re service standard reduction HOWEVER Do we really need a bed on a 4 hr domestic sector, By the time you have the coughpy service offered, even on the redeye, then settle down and start to close your eyes, you are on descent to SYD/PER Anyway. Seriously, we dont need flat beds domestically. I think its more want, and the W$%k factor (No offence to you as I dont know you)
