Apart from only being able to add single extras (seat selection or luggage) - no plus or max packs
 
Yes, that won't be a problem. You can add most extras at the usual cost. The price beat bookings are treated exactly like regular Starter fares.
Definitely something to think about if wanting to save some money.

Is it possible to get confirmation from someone that I can use say a $100 gift card for a ~$45.50 booking and I will not lose the remaining balance on gift card?

I think the price beat has changed again. I did one a couple of days ago and after entering all the preliminary details I was told I'd receive an email; there was no chat. I thought that's a great way to wait out the opposition's lower prices but, sure enough, five minutes later I got an email saying I'd been approved (PER-SIN return against Tiger's sale, down to $184 return, a bargain considering the inbound with 3K was $703 alone).

The email provides a link to pay and the fare is only held for 60 minutes. On my $184 fare, though, I was slugged seventeen dollars in a credit card surcharge! That's like 9%. On top of that . . .

I have a feeling that Jetstar have instigated some forms of dynamic pricing for bundles and extras. The prices don't seem to be consistent anymore, particularly on sale fares.

The $17 credit card surcharge is what 3k charge, and the $60 for luggage is also what 3K charge. You seem to have been hit up for the 3K charges.
 
Yes, luggage can no longer be included in the booking process.....a new change. AND of course if you want to add it later to the booking then it is at the higher rate

Interesting. I'm on 3K on the outbound and JQ on the inbound.

I'm sent an email to the ACCC to ask if the surcharge is violating the regulations. The merchant as stated on my credit card is "Jetstarasia ****** australia" (where the asterixs are my PNR) so I would think the ACCC's regulations do apply here and the $17 is way excessive.
 
I have a different experience to what has been posted in this thread recently with the price beat guarantee.

I completed a price beat guarantee quote last night and wasn't expecting much or to accept the offer from what was posted in this thread.

I am wondering if its poorly worded and refereed to the previous provision that if you alternate fare contained baggage over 20kg, you were given 20kg of baggage included in the price match.

I come to this conclusion after completing the price match form for an Australian domestic flight and noted the following drop box -

I chose 20kg in a SYD-BNE leg.

My comparison fare (Tiger) was $49. The standard jetstar baggage prices on the route are:

So $19.

My ticket price sent was $63.10 and the payment page said a 1.1% (or thereabouts) would be charged for Credit Card or Paypal.
I payed Mastercard and no surcharge was presented or charged.

This is 10% off of $49 ($44.10)+ $19 and no surcharges.

I would suggest having a look yourself, YMMV.
 
Ahh. I booked the same route with the same Tigerair comparison. Didn't see that drop down option, I had in read Jetstar's note 2. as , like you can always add baggage to a booking later. So was charged $44.10 (+credit card fee! weird). I'm with Club Jetstar which gives 20% off, don't want baggage (even though I'm married) but will do a test costing

The laws apply to payment surcharges only . . . Therefore, booking fees are not covered by this legislation.​

The agent missed the part in my original contact where I stated:

"I note that in the attachment [which was the emailed itinerary] the charge is listed as "Booking and service fee"; however, at the time of booking it was clearly stated that using a Visa incurred a $17 surcharge".​

Jetstar appears to be being quite sneaky here and, going on the ACCC response, they're getting away with it by calling it a "service charge".

I'm going to get back to the ACCC and have another go.

Submitted 2 price beats OOL-SYD return referencing Tigers $33 flight. By the time the price beat email was sent the outbound leg increased to $55. The email mentions you have 1 hour to pay. Forgot the gift cards at home and went back home during lunch to pay for the 2 bookings. I only paid for second booking as I wanted to check for alternatives.

It would appear that even though you have 1 hour to pay it will also accept payment nearly 2 hours later. Added seat selection but email for second booking has not yet arrived.

Interesting that baggage is $40 for 15kg when added later.

I got a reply from ACCC that just reinforces how useless the organisation is.

It talks about the law changes and how "the level of the surcharge must not be excessive". In says "The ACCC cannot tell you what amount is considered excessive" (useless) and refers me to the RBA which estimates 1-1.5% for non Amex and 2-3% for Amex. It finished by saying "We will investigate complaints of excessive payment surcharging and take enforcement action where necessary".

Ha. Yeah right.

I'm going to write to Jetstar but I can't imagine any response will be helpful.
 
I notice the price beat guarantee conditions now state that:

  • 2. Baggage is no longer included in our Price Beat Guarantee. Any checked baggage or other products bought in addition to the comparable Jetstar product won’t be discounted, but you can still add them to your booking

So, does this mean that baggage will no longer be included for Price Beat fares when the competitor's flight would normally include baggage?

I've previously used the price beat to book a JQ flight against a CI flight which came with included baggage. The JQ fare therefore also came with free baggage. I assume this will no longer be the case.
 
In the last 3 years best price has never included free luggage!

It certainly has included free luggage in the past, if the competitor's regular fare would have normally included at least 20kg of luggage...

(This is only generally the case when price matching full service carriers.)

It's quite possible that I'm misinterpreting this new rule, though.
 
Oh.....I have been price beating Tiger.... Hence why I said no free luggage....

The JQ fare will not include free luggage but they will allow you to add discounted luggage at the time of the price beat.
 
I haven’t used this for a while and just noticed you can now beat Jetstar flights sold cheaper elsewhere.

There seems to be new wave of these third party sites and they are always a couple of dollars cheaper, sometimes just $1. Which means you can get 10% off these.
 
Last saturday i had an interesting experience with Jetstar price beat.

As I usually do with domestic fares i checked Webjet first which showed $85 Jetstar HBA to MEL, no baggage. I went onto Jetstar site and same flight was $109.

I went onto live chat, filled the form out and thought it curious the agent was taking a very long time to check something so simple. Around a half hour later and still on the live chat i refreshed the Webjet page and lo and behold it had gone up to $109!

What was that Elvis song? "Suspicious minds" I think.
