Angry passengers take Jetstar crew hostage
Date October 30, 2012 - 5:16PM

Angry passengers have held a Jetstar crew hostage after a flight delay in China.

A JETSTAR pilot and crew were held hostage for more than six hours by a mob of angry passengers after their flight was diverted from Beijing to Shanghai because of bad weather.
The experienced Australian pilot is being hailed a hero for his calm actions after being confronted by the angry passengers as they disembarked at Shanghai's Pudong Airport.
Upset at the delay and fearful that they would be abandoned and left to find their own way to Beijing, the passengers bailed them up inside a section of the arrivals area and refused to let them leave.

I'm glad this was resolved peacefully. Chinese police are not noted for their patience and understanding

When I saw the title of the article online, did anybody else secretly think this was bound to happen one day and why not earlier?

Re: J* crew manhandled

Those mainland Chinese are pretty tough customers...

Re: J* crew manhandled

it's a pretty common occurence - have flown KA to PVG and was delayed by ATC flow control. the captain made constant announcements advising all pax needed to 'respect' the CC and they were not responsible for the delay. i tend to choose KA for this reason when flying into the mainland as they have been doing these routes for years and know all the cr@p that is likely to crop up.

Re: J* crew manhandled

So let's get this straight... it was Jetstar's fault again, right? :)

Re: J* crew manhandled

Typical media blowing it up as a hostage drama, rather than a revolt by the passengers.

When someone reads hostage drama on board an aircraft they expect guys in balaclavas holding the crew for ransom, not a group of angry Chinese.
