Thinking about using a QF classic award to book us in JQ business for a domestic flight.

Flight leaves from T2 (international) at MEL. Do we get access to the QF international business lounge?

Or to put it another way: is a QF classic award used for JQ business class considered to be the same as paid JQ Business or paid JQ Business Max?

I believe it gives you the entitlements of the cheaper JQ Business Clare fare, ie it's not the max bundle. I'm pretty sure access is only granted to the QF lounges on a QF award on JQ with QF status, but I would be happy to be corrected if any QF award on JQ Business Class gave QF Lounge access

Certainly at the Y level always went to the base class.

787 J for a short flight isn't anything special - a refurbed QF A332 is much better

You mean a dom pax on an int JQ flight, MEL - SYD or MEL - CNS?
Yes, if you get a 787 (I have done it-MEL - SYD), you do get QF J int business lounge at MEL int.
But its in the "dungeon".
Save your points, more points saved, use the points for an EK flight with a QF flight number from MEL to AKL (points + pay).
The MEL QF int F lounge is much much much better than the QF J int lounge, its without window so no views to the outside, thats the reason its called that is that its in the basement, use the escalators near int dep gate 4/6.
"Dungeon" is the right word, or fortress more so, to be politically correct.
Given the choice, if I wanted to use points, I would go to NZ.
MEL QF F int has views to the outside. Have done that one too.
Aust JQ truly dom flights dep from MEL T4, and don't have a business cabin.
One more thing, JQ have a bad record of cancelling flights that are considered "not/non essential" so you just might be relegated to the T4 truly Aust JQ flight, I wouldn't take the chance if I were you.
They might just decide to fly that 787 from MEL to DPS, or SYD - DPS and cancel the flight you aim for.
There is a website called "don't fly Jetstar", google it, and read the comments.
QF itself is one of the best/is the best airline, with JQ you do play with fire (cancelled flights/late flights etc).

Do you have status with QF?
