Contacted Jetstar Sunday last asking what the Bali volcano situation was as my wife is so worried about going now, they replied what volcano!!, yet it was all over the national press.

Today I read n SMH and other online news sites JQ are offering vouchers (and VA too) if one wants to cancel, so called JQ an hour ago they said NO vouchers, but can move flight to same destination up to 84 days out. Mrs.Lime and I would rather go to HNL now than visiting Bali and a volcano.

As FF for decades and had problems with JQ in the past (what's new), we vowed to say away from them and their draconian regulations, but as the daughter and boyfriend wanted to go to Bali we caved in and bought JQ tickets for the 4.5 hour flight from CNS, now not only have they split up and not going we now have to contend with JQ and the volcano and might get stuck there, so I can say after more negative conversations with them the past few days - about the current Bali situation, this is the absolute last time with JQ period.

JQ get quite a wrap (on the knuckles) here.

Well, most of that isn’t under JQ control. And until something happens with regards to the Volcano for them it’s business as usual. I’m betting Qantas is the same. We too have a flight booked for Bali in early Nov but on Qantas. Not even bothering to call until closer or the volcano erupts. I’m guessing you are peeved that there’s no refund but as they say, that’s what insurance is for.

Travel insurance, we have Amex Plat Cards but think natural disasters are not covered. Anyways, might not be going after reading this today. So if JQ cancel flights and wont give us flight vouchers and we have to take up same destination within following 84 days, I'll find flights later around same $ pay name transfer and flog them on Gumtree.

They’ve been reporting this for days. Trouble is they don’t really have any idea if or when it will blow.

You really need to read the policy, it depends on what is it that you are actually going to claim.

Platinum edge policy says if the outgoing flight is delayed for 24 hours you can opt to cancel the whole trip.

Another thing to clarify is that an ash cloud may be a weather condition, not a natural disaster.

If jetstar cancels your flight, they are going to reschedule you or refund you. So there is no loss for you on the flights

Hey Limewood, great to have you back posting after the forum changes.

You know Hawaii is basically all volcanoes right? Albeit less explosive right now ;) I can recommend a walk up to the rim of Diamond Head and snorkel around Hanauma Bay, both volcano calderas.

Yes, still do not understand why the banner is so faint? at least the quoted text even small is now readable in black.

Been to Hawaii many times and understand they they have volcanos but they don't erupt anywhere near those in Bali, me thinks Mrs Lime prefers Honolulu so she can have her shopping fix at the Waikele outlets!

"We are continuing to closely monitor volcanic activity at Mount Agung in Bali" - really, its amazing news I'm so happy they are doing this, like the world media has been doing for best part of a week.

I guess now that the volcano is spewing out molten rock and ash this morning and expected to blow very soon, possibly be another announcement: those so concerned at travelling to Bali can cancel and get flight vouchers, nah probably not.

In fairness this could go on for weeks. Or blow today. Five weeks time for us.

Until the volcano erupts, we are all playing a waiting game and rolling the dice.
We are due to fly out from Cairns next Tuesday night, one night in Bali and then fly to Manado the next day around midday.

Mount Agung doesn't rate a mention on the Volcanic Ash Advisories, Yet.

Mrs Lime is adamant, to risky she says and might get stuck there, I'm on her side after reading the experts remarks today. Have to decide to go or not before next Sunday.

No its not. Its trickling out water vapour, which i think is unchanged for a long time maybe years.

That was 17 hours ago. Many more evacuated and tremors increased a lot. Its like rolling dice, Mrs Lime is very edgy.

The last update from the official source is the 22nd. Nothing has changed since then.

The fact that many more has been evacuated is not a sign to be concerned for anything, of course the number of evacuees increases everyday. They cant have evacuated everyone in one day when the exclusion zone was widened on the 22nd.

The tremors increased a lot between 18-22. Since then its increased very little comparitively.

There is no reason to be more edgy today than last Friday.

Contacted Westpac today. There are multiple ways in which I can claim and it seems the free CC Insurance offers my best refund if needed. At this stage nothing has changed with regards to the situation - until something happens there is no claim - it will simply be a change of mind. So unless given options by the airlines there isnt much wriggle room yet. Our accom is prepaid at around $2700 so we can't do anything yet or we will lose it. Flights with Qantas are refundable but with some costs attached as I dont think they are saying yet we can change. But the stick point for us is the accommodation.

The airlines will always take the cautious approach and change nothing if that's possible. It seems to me though JQ has taken a lead from QF and are being consistently inconsistent with there information output. -- No real surprises --
