At 2.30am this morning, I went to book a return trip to Bali for my wife and me next year. I knew the exact dates, so it should have been simple - book the flights, pick the bundles, select seats and meal type, and pay.

I finally finished the process at 6am this morning, and was so annoyed that I didn't go to bed till after 7am.

First problem was that I kept getting the message that I had been too idle, the session was ended and I was thrown back to the beginning - which astounded me as I had been very busy putting in our details and was selecting the plane meals when I was turffed off.

This happened several times till I noticed that a banner came up at the top of the page saying to click there if I wanted more time (to my mind, "Idle" means not inputting anything for a while, not that I have a fixed time limit to enter the required data).

Then I couldn't get past the passenger details, it kept sending me back to the start of entering the details, and I couldn't see what was missing, other than my title "Mr" kept being reset to blank.

So I tried logging in with Facebook to see if that changed things. It certainly did - suddenly it no longer gave me the option to enter my birth date or passport details, but I could enter my wife's details - though they often disappeared when I was reset to the beginning of the details section.

So I then went into my account and disconnected Facebook, which promptly ended my session again and sent me back to the beginning. On the next attempt it still wouldn't accept my details, and after 10 or so more attempts I was again thrown back to the beginning and started from scratch.

So then I rang their 24 hour number, and waited and waited.
While waiting I tried again, but this time I put in minimum detail - leaving out passport information, and I got past the block and onto seat selection and on to payment.

And thus, after three and a half hours our flights were finally booked.

I've never had such an utterly frustrating experience before.
Regards,
Renato

JQ's IT makes QF's look good :)

That I could easily agree with.
The JQ website is frequently full of bugs and errors.

Last year JQ were giving away "free" max bundles on some domestic routes, along with meals that could be added to a booking for $0.
Ive been successful in selecting emergency exit rows which should have cost extra, even as with a plus bundle attached as these seats are not free of charge.

So for all the issues that the JQ website has, aren't always bad. :)

I've never had a problem with the Qantas site.

If only the Jetstar site stated what one was supposedly doing wrong, I would have had a chance to rectify it, rather than wracking my brain trying to figure it out. I still don't know what the issue was for most of my wasted time.

Having not had much experience with the 'new' JQ website I can't comment on its usefulness as most of my bookings are now made through a TMC. However, you can force the booking engine back to the 'legacy' version by going directly to Book Cheap Flights | Jetstar
